To label what we believe in?
To categorize ourselves?
I don't understand...why do our beliefs have to have a name put to them? What is the point of religion?

To escape eternal damnation and inherit eternal life among the forever blessed is one good reason.

The point of religion is to find a purpose for life. Also, to have your toughest questions answered about life. People have different beliefs about what God is. They have different believes on what God considers a sin and a good deed.

For me, my religion is a set of rituals and theology that teaches me ways to deepen my connection with my deities. It is a way to connect with others with the same basic belief system and to learn through them. My religion teaches me ways to look at and understand the world around me and my place in it. It gives answers or guidance in unanswerable questions. It provides a foundation that I can grow from.

But the main purpose of my religion is to help me to deepen my connection with my deities. If a religion doesn't do that, it would be worthless to me.

For me, religion shows the way of life...

how to be a good 'earth leader'
how to conduct life with the laws that fulfill every one
how to know the god
how to interact with other human, other creature and ourselves

as for me, by knowing the god, we become humble. knowing that we have resposibilities to care the world. every knowledge is reveal the beauty of god creation.

Religion is the root of all evil.
It makes all wars. Some people think it's Good against Bad. but actually it's Bad against Bad.
Anyway, all religious are actually NOT free.
they think they will be punished for doing only 1 little thing.
i'm an atheist. i don't believe in such junk like "God made the universe" or any other nonsense.
i have alot of facts.
and the religious don't believe them. all they believe is in junk, the so-called 'Religion'.

In my humble opinion any religious path/philosophy, be it Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Wicca, or Druidism, should inspire you to be a better person and put you on the path to enlightenment, tolerance of others, and self-acceptance. If it isn't doing that then you're in the wrong boat.

Religion is a tool used by those who would subjugate and dominate to keep the masses in line.

Many are incapable of thinking for themselves and take comfort in having someone else give them the answers to questions they cannot fathom even philosophizing.

I ask myself what is the point of the church??
seems like nowadays churches are on competition to get more and more people, even when they don't do what they preach

Control.

Think about it. How do the rich keep the poor in line? Promise of delayed reward (aka heaven).

Look at the 10 commandments.

Don't steal from me.
Don't kill me.
Don't take my wife.

Come on. These are rich mans rules made to keep the poor in line with a promise of the "good life" in the "hereafter".

Religion is about how you work your way up to God. Christianity is about how God came down to you.
