Paul wasn't one of the original disciples. According to the Bible Paul (who was born Saul) heard the voice of Jesus on the road to Damascus after Jesus' execution and alleged resurrection.
See Acts 9 for the Biblical version of events. From a skeptical point of view this is hardly conclusive. If me and a bunch of friends on the road to the pub claim to hear the voice of Elvis I very much doubt that the world will recognise us as the true emissaries of the King of Rock 'n' Roll.

It's not that Paul was considered less valid or important.. some people felt Paul pulled Christianity on to another path. But they keep forgetting that Paul was selected by Jesus and it took a long time for the Apostles to accept him since he originally used to persecute them.
So overall don't worry about it, just a few people get picky but his teachings were validated by the Apostles and the Church there is not 'different path' its all what it was supposed to be..

I've never heard that term, but I'm going to take a guess on what they are referring to.
There are the Pauline Epistles in the Bible and those are the ones written by the Apostle Paul. So, I take it that Pauline Christianity must refer to those who follow the teachings of Paul in the Bible.

This is the teachings and doctrines of Christianity based off of the writing of Paul. Some feel that the teachings that Paul created were very different from the teachings of Jesus himself, and in fact, I've heard Paul referred to as an anti-Christ.
Paul was NOT an apostle of Jesus...The original 12 are all listed in the Gospels, with the original teachings of Jesus written by those who met him. After the death of Judas, the 12 then chose a new apostle themselves.
Paul never met Jesus, except for a claimed vision on the road. I'm not sure he even ever met any of the 12 +1 replacement.
It's felt that if you compare the teachings, as recorded directly from Jesus, and those created by Paul, that the two really aren't in agreement, and that Paul took Christianity off on his own, and very different, route.

You are right. "Pauline Christianity" are the Christian beliefs and doctrines which were espoused by Paul the Apostle through his writings. The criticism comes from a belief that Paul's supporters had an undue influence on the formation of the canon and that certain bishops influenced the debates by which the Creeds came to be produced, thus ensuring a Pauline interpretation of the gospel.
As for why they feel like this, I have no idea.

Correction. Paulian not "Pauline." These are christians who believe and follow after all the Apostle Paul taught for he was the one chosen "by" Jesus to spread his message amongst the Gentiles. Devout "paulian" christians are many Catholics who, though they believe in Peter as the rock, strongly believe that "Paul" had a stronger message and DID more to spread it, being more stern in his teachings and in his divine inspired disciplines for the faithful.

Jesus spoke of love and brotherhood. Paul spoke of conquering the world.
You will find a good article on wikipedia.

It's interesting to me that all of the avowed atheists and unbelievers answering the question are the ones most inclined to believe Paul was not a genuine Apostle of Jesus Christ.
As Jesus said: "Woe to you when all men speak well of you".

Misguided... Some have been lied to and do not recognize the truth of Jesus' teaching clearly repeated in Paul's letters.
Paul's teaching was endorsed as accurate by:
The rest of the apostles and elders at Jerusalem -- Acts 15
Peter individually -- 2Peter 3:15-16
...Notice that Jesus PREDICTED THE END OF THE LAW IN MATTHEW 5:18, JUST AS PAUL LATER WRITES THAT IT HAPPENED.

Some people believe that Paul perverted the teachings of Christ by adding his own. They feel that Paul's teachings contradict those of the Gospels. Personally I don't see it.
