There is no proof that this is necessary.

"6. Should I have my amalgam fillings removed and replaced with these other materials?
There are no scientific studies that show that having dental amalgams is harmful, or that removing your amalgam fillings will improve your health.

If you are concerned about the possible health effects of amalgam fillings, you should talk with your dentist or doctor".

But the resin fillings look better!

I was a dental assistant for 8 years. There is absolutley no correlation between amalgams and cancer. The reason dentists are now changing from amalgams to resin fillings is now because of the cosmetic value for 1 and because the amalgam fillings are not nearly as strong or last as long as the newer products used in the resin fillings do. Amalgams are a metal base and mainly placed in molars whiched are hit on every day so they take a tremendous amount of wear and tear causing them to need to be replaced.

So yes, it's a great idea!

Amalgam is an alloy of lead and silver. Lead is poison-es but there seems up to now no proof that lead is leaching out and causing cancer.
I had a number of large amalgam fillings for many years. My regular doctor had a lead test performed for me. The results showed a normal lead level. In the end I had all these fillings replaced with white plastic ones because they look so much better.
