it's' an infection that is being suffered in your kidney. Usually bacterial and can be taken care of with antibiotics.

Kidney infections often come about when a UTI or bladder infection is neglected too long.

If you have an ache in your lower back that feels bruisy, and feels worse with jostling (such as running), it's probably a kidney infection, but might also be kidney stones.

Most people tend to go for help with a urinary tract infection while it is still in the bladder... it does hurt... you feel distended and swollen. Common in sexually active people. Also common in people who don't drink enough water, or conversely, drink lots of soda pop.

Curing a bladder infection is easy enough. You drink lots of water, take lots of vitamin C, Echinacea capsules and Herbal diuretic tablets from the health food store. Also taking either cranberry capsules or putting some cranberry concentrate syrup in your water can help. Lots and lots of water.

If allowed to go too long, it can move into the kidney... and the pain would be up in the middle of the back, below the two shoulder blades and above the waist. You may see dark urine. That is when you really need to go to the doctor before it shuts the kidneys down.
