Hello, I need some help with my ubuntu linux I just got. Putting linux on a CD and booting it would be easier, but I would prefer to use an SD card since I will only install it once. I have already extracted the content and put it on the card. Now I want to know how to boot it without installing it. I restarted my pc and pressed the required key (delete). Now where do I go? Also if you know, how do I install it on the harddrive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Linux version has to be a specific USB drive bootable version which yours is clearly not. It is a live CD image and won't work unless you burn it onto a CD. Use a CD RW if you don't wanna waste a good CD. But sure as hell your current method ain't gonna work

Try this:

I believe I read that this does not work with 7.04, though.

Installing it on the hard drive is easy, provided that you are not planning to keep Windows. Just click the "Install: icon on the desktop of the Live CD, and select "Guided- Use entire disk". If you want to keep Windows, it is slightly more difficult, but not impossible. Select "Guided - resize partition" and drag the bar to the size that you want the Ubuntu partition to be - at least 4 gigs.
