They both are a sub par subs ( HA HA to ME) . Given the two i would edge to the JBL but with protest. What speakers do you have now? this could be a determining factor in your purchase.

Hi .How long is your room the sub is going to be in.?Agood sub will only play the lowest two octaves below 80 HZ. To hear one full cycle of the lowest note of a sub (about 20HZ) requires a room 56 feet long. You can still hear half of that 20 HZ note in a 28 foot room .In a 14 foot room you cant hear the note The material the walls are made of affect the low notes A thin wall will absorb some of the energy and transmit some bass through it.A solid brick wall will keep the notes inside the room bouncing around before they decay. What you get are standing waves which create areas of loud booming sound which dominate the room in some areas and cancel themselves in other areas. Also, each room has a resonant frequency which vibrates everything in the room. This is what some people mistake for good sound from a sub. if the sub buzzes, rattles,, shakes, and vibrates, everything and anything in the room they are happy. That is not what a sub is intended for.

the jbl is going to be the best bet. its a superior producct overall than a lot of things. I would say get velodyne but if you get a discount, jbl is good. I gotta ask, do you work at best buy, is that why you get a discount?
