My roommate constantly pops his gum so loudly you can hear it from the other side of the house. It even wakes me up when I'm sleeping! Totally annoying. He thinks I shouldn't let it bother me; I think he should be considerate and stop. What do YOU think?

Yes, and if he was a girl I would suggest, "ladies don't chew gum".

It's very inconsiderate to pop gum loudly around others. Maybe your roommate is not aware how much it bothers you. As a teenager, I also had a chronic problem of popping gum wherever I was. It was a bad habit. I did not stop until someone told me it was irritating.

OMG, that's so rude!! When I used to chew gum I couldn't help it, it just popped all the time. I loved it but it bugged everyone. Hence, I no longer chew gum. Your roommate is a disrespectful brat. Tell him to stop or he won't have any teeth with which to chew!!

No one should ever hear what is in your mouth. I'm not hateful toward gum as some of the answerers are, but if you are chewing something, it should remain quiet.

I can't tell you the number of people I've met who disdain the loud, smacking, popping sound of someone noisily chewing gum. (In fact, my husband will leave the room if someone pops their gum -- he finds it that grating.)
A well-known saying in college dorms is, "The right to quiet supersedes the right to make noise." That definitely applies in your case. If he still resists, I'd ask him to chew gum only in his room with his door closed.

One of my MAJOR PET PEEVES -but so is chewing gum, Period!
If people could only see a video of how stupid they look chewing gum, I bet they would never chew again!!!
Just from a social stand point -lowers your IQ by mega points!!!!
Do it in "private" if you must -like all the other things that will make you go blind! : )

its okay if you do it once in a while but if you do it loud and every 10 seconds then i would suggest that you hide your roommates gum :]
