I am a guitar performance major and I have a Gibson Les Paul Studio also (for my electric). It cost about 1200 also and its a very nice guitar.
My classical is a 2006 Tom Rodriguez, who is a luthier from Richmond Virginia. It is a Cedar top, with Brazilian rosewood back and sides, and has a lattice braced soundboard, which cost $5000. It plays wonderfully, and sounds amazing.
If you really want a great guitar, play something that isn't factory built, but rather luthiered, the quality is much higher (and I never even realized it until I was shopping for mine). There are many luthiers out there who build not only classical guitars, but steel string and electric as well. To find a list of them go to the GFA website www.guitarfoundation.org or just search "luthiers" in a yahoo browser and it should bring up jazz luthiers, classical, acoustic, etc...
Keep playing!

I've got an East German Classical style guitar that I do a lot of composing on. It cost me about $270 Ostmarks, or about twenty six dollars at the time.
I have a Yamaha FG75 parlor style steel string guitar that basically went everywhere that I did for about ten years. I bought it for about twenty five dollars in a jewelry store in Syracuse New York, just before I took my first trip cross country in my quest to become a Folk Singer. The strap was a hunk of leather cord that I bought for three dollars. It's still on there by the way. I didn't have a case for it until I settled down and it has some major dents and dings
I have an Ovation Adamas, a Gibson ES335, a couple of Yamaha Classical Guitars that I use at school, and a whole bunch of other guitars all over the house, but they all serve a purpose. I like them because they became a part of my life at different times, they speak to me, and they all seem to be roadworthy as well.

I use Ovations for performing, 6 string and 12 string. I love the sound both acoustic and electric. For rock'n'roll I use a Burns Marquee into a Vox Cambridge 30R amp If I need nylon string I use a Valencia electro acoustic with a cutaway. To take around I use a Vantage blonde electro-acoustic steel string and for sentimentality I still have my Eko Ranger 12 string that is 36 years old and still going strong. These are in addition to my collection of fiddles, mandolins, banjos, bouzoukis, a sitar, lute, harp and other instruments

my first guitar is a fender telecaster(mexican made). it really sucks. haha the neck is terrible beyond description, and its heavy and the sound is very weak and undefined.
after i boguht that i vowed never to buy a crappy guitar again.
so i bought a gibson les paul vintage mahogany. its the one they sell on musiciansfriend com for like 800$. i tried it out at guitar center and it was frickin sweet, so i threw down the money for it and i love it basically.

Fender. I like that it is electric. It's black and basic. Not sure how much, but it was a starter kit.
