I 'm thinking of buying a 2003 Jeep Liberty and it is rear wheel drive, and i would be using in the winter in icy/snow conditions. Good idea or not?

If you want to drive in snow or live where there is that problem, at least to me, it would make more sense to go with the four wheel drive version.
To answer your question, it would, with snow tires do as well or slightly better than most cars due to balance. Make sure it has limited slip!!!!
Good Luck

the 2wd is an ok performer in the snow as others have said.
but you will need to make sure the rear end is a limited slip
type and you install a good set of snow tires. but being
a amc/jeep eagle 4x4 owner i would recommend that you
should try to find a 4x4 liberty 1st. to poke alittle fun at the
subaru dude i haven't found a subaru yet (that includes the wrx) that could follow me into some cat 4 trails ,rock crawl,
or go thru a 5 foot snow drift(i have with no worries).
the choice is yours and if you need more help please
go to www.bulltear.com and click onto forum. we can help
you with your jeep questions and needs or wants.
good luck

Rear wheel drive, front engine...doesn't sound too good.
Why buy a two wheel drive Jeep anyway?

why not just get a 4wd. search around a little more and you should be able to find a nice 4wd. it is worth it. besides, those things have the option of 2wd too while your not using 4wd. why not have the option?

in light snow it will do ok,not as good as a 4wd but you will be able to get by,just make sure and get snow tires, they can make all the difference

4WD Jeeps are left behind spinning their wheels when there's a Subaru nearby.
