" It's funny how skeptics try to corner believers with this question. "

Thank you Devoted to Christ, but it was an honest question. I was just curious, so I thought to ask. I'm not a skeptic trying to corner anyone.

As the local non-Christian person who can answer this question I will answer it for the 5th time.

In Genesis 4:16 Cain lived in the Land of Nod and he knew his wife. She was from the land of Nod, which is my contention that there were other people already living and that the Christian creation myth is about a small group of people. It doesn't prove that Christians were the first people, so it leave open the idea that the planet was widely populated and probably had a diverse religious population. So much for the Christians being first and being the true religion.

Go Pagans!

Genesis 4:17 says, "Cain lay with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch." Who was his wife? It is implied in the biblical text that Cain married one of his sisters. Several facts lead us to this conclusion.
First, it is clear that Adam and Eve had a number of children. Genesis 5:4 says, "After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters." Since Adam and Eve were the first man and woman, and since God had commanded them (and their descendants) to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28), it seems reasonable to conclude that Cain married one of his many sisters. It is also possible that he married a niece or even a grandniece.
One must keep in mind that in the early years of the human race there were no genetic defects that had yet developed as a result of the fall of man. By the time of Abraham, God had not yet declared this kind of marriage to be contrary to His will (see Genesis 20:12). Laws governing incest apparently did not become enacted until the time of Moses (Lev 18:7-17; 20:11,12,14,17,20,21). Hence, there was no prohibition regarding marrying a sister (or niece or grandniece) in the days of Cain.

Adam was not created like a mud-pie, but like evolution is discovering. There were many more people, but they were not quite human; Adam was the first one to be called human. You have to begin somewhere, and that was the beginning. So, yes, right away his children have wives, big families, and are building cities.

Adam had a wife named Lilith before he married Eve. Maybe there were children from the previous marriage, like a half-sister? Or maybe some of the other nearby primates had evolved to the point where they could successfully mate with homo sapiens, and Genesis is just the quick-and-dirty explanation.

Adam and Eve had many children. The children intermarried. It was not forbidden. After all, who else were they supposed to marry? There was no one else alive at that time!

Adam, Eve, Cain and Abel were the only 4 people living on earth. Somehow, Cain married a "woman from the land of Nod which is a country east of Eden." Huh? Yet another inconsistency and incongruity in their story.

At least it gave us a cool title for a James Dean movie.
