I got an email from a person calling herself/himself Mrs Rachelle Assaba‎ claiming that after her husband's assasination she and her family had to flee Sierra Leone and they have millions of dollars that nobody knows about. She says she wants to transfer this money to my account and will reward me for my help. The email address is godformyfamily1@yahoo.fr and the phone number given is +22507511817. She says that she'll probably not be at home because her daughter, Maria, is sick in the hospital so I should talk to her son, Etienne.

I know this is a scam, but I don't know what to do about it. I live in Indiana in the US. I haven't replied, of course. So what do I do?

Nothing. Ignore it or, as I like to do, play around with them. Tell them you are going to send them money but come up with excuses why its taking so long, they get pizzed!

It's an FBI matter, Believe me, they are already aware of it but cannot allocate resources for a scam. We got a war going on and terrorists knocking down our buildings.....more important things then a scam.

The FBI and Secret Service both have Internet Units. The FBI is more appropriate for these fishing scams. The Secret Services role is a little more complex and involved more with banking and credit card schemes.

I did some work with the FBI 10 years ago. As the case was a Secret Service case there was some joking about their lack of a spook squad to collect video evidence.

I will include both links.

The SEC also collects data concerning "pump and dump schemes". Those pump up penny stocks claiming they will jump in price yada yada yada. These people will buy 1000's of shares send out emails. If people start heavy buying the price will go up, they sell their shares and make a very nice profit off garbage companies.

They will only know about these schemes if they are reported.

Remember that the few 1000 agents are busy listening to every phone call made on the planet. Never mind just got to get my jab into the ACLU crowd.

Contact the local FBI office in your area. It is an online fraud case and most likely originated out of your state or over seas. Print the email out for them. Do not respond. The FBI will take care of it. They may have you contact your local police department also.

You delete the e-mail and go on with your life.

Law enforcement at any level has no time to investigate such things.

By the way: Lead federal agency on such scams is not the FBI, but actually the US Secret Service. Go figure.

contact your local police via the 7 digit non emergency # not by calling 911.
give them the info and an officer will contact you to investigate or will forward it to the internet fraud/crimes division (probly of the state police)
i get those emails often and just delete them. and i work for the police!

Nothing - if you have no time to lose.
Play with them - if you have time to lose.
