The Passion of The Christ by Mel Gibson is the best I've seen in a long time as it really shows just how horrible the Crucifixion really was for Jesus. I never realized that the tools used to beat Him actually ripped his skin off. I makes me so sad to think what My Lord had to suffer for my sins. I rejoice that He was resurrected and has provided salvation for anyone who believes in Him.
The Nativity Story is a refreshing change from the usual commercialized Christmas stories. It was so close to what the Holy Scriptures say - a great witness for those who watch it and understand the Miracle of Christ's Birth.
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

The Passion of the Christ is a great intense movie, which is perfect in preparing for the Easter season.
Also, the Gospel of John( 2005/6) versions is great.
I would not recommend the movie The Nativity story if you want a Biblical based film because although it is a good movie, it does not stick to tradition or the telling of the Bible.

Hello, Evelyn:
"Matthew", that you mention, is one of our favorites. We also have all the Gospels, as well as Acts.
One we enjoy sharing with our 'Latino' neighbors in the tropics is "Bamboo in the Winter". It is available Online, and if you have not seen it, It challenges your faith and makes you wonder how strong a Christian you really are.
Also, we have watched The Passion of Christ by Mel Gibson literally hundreds of times. We hold missionary meetings and show 20 minute segments until completed. Although much of it is tradition and not recorded in the Bible, It depicts Christ's sufferings better than any other movie. The Word records in Isaiah 52:14 "As many were astonished at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men."
Let us not forget God's great sacrifice for us, and a last-day code proves Jesus is the Messiah. See http://abiblecode.tripod.com
Shalom, peace in Jesus, Ben Yeshua

Hello,
Actually I liked the Musical Jesus Christ Superstar filmed in Isreal. It was quite symbolic with Roman soldiers holding a spear in one hand and Uzis strapped at at their sides. The temple market Christ trashed had oilve oil and incense to drugs and machine guns for sale. The point Judas asks in his song is why did Christ have to come in such a strange time and such a strange land when today tings would have been better with mass communication et al but you see from the symbolism of modern artifacts in the movie that while technology changes our attitudes remain much the same. Things would have been perhaps no different for Jesus.
My only gripe with the movie was Jesus being shown more high strung and emotional than I always imagined.

My second choice is Jesus of Nazareth mini series from 1977:

Definetely The Passion. I balled my eyes out. I enjoyed watching it, but then again, I didn't. It's not exactly something you watch for a feel good movie. The ending is good, but just thinking about everything prior to that is choking me up right now. A funny-mentalist church iwent to was blasting the movie when it came out, saying it couldn't be no good since it came from a Catholic. I asked the goofball afterwards if he'd ever even seen it. He said no. It's Christians like that who would do more good by shutting up and keeping their extra-biblical crap to themselves. If the Bible says it, preach it. If it doesn't say it, keep it to yourself.

The Passion of Christ. This movie touched me deeply. Everyone I know who saw this was deeply moved by it. The graphic nature of the film, in my opinion, was needed to hit everyone hard with the reality He went through. It really made me feel bad about the bad things I have done in my life. I give all my thanks to Him for what He did for us.
A less graphic movie I enjoyed was the Nativity Story. That was a very nice film about the birth of our saviour Jesus Christ.
