Actually, women "under Islam" had and still have far more rights and privileges that the west has only just begun to realize and adopt in the late 19th Century. Islam gave women rights that weren't even considered by the west until then. Women actually have many rights in Islam. She can own her own business, inherit, file for a divorce, obtain custody over children, and many other things women begged their husbands and the government to give them in the west. Islam, however, gave women these rights all along. Women in Islam are very misrepresented by the west. The bias media makes it look like Islam oppresses women, when in fact the very oppression of women is against Islam.
If you really were once a Muslim, you would know that Muslim women have many right under Islam. But nice try.
Why the hypocracy?

The most interesting part of your question is that amazing part ' former muslim/atheist'. Please explain. Certainly muslim to atheist or christian to atheist, or muslim to christian would be presumed normal but muslim to atheist to christian, now that's a strange journey. Tell more, I have never heard o someone going through a journey of one patriarchal fairy tale to searching for the truth of reality, then ditching reality and taking up another patriarchal fairy tale.
