Well for one these are our men over there (husbands, fathers, son, daughter, mothers ect..... So we have no choice but to support and love them. Also i bet if it would have been your mom or dad ect... that would been killed in one of the many of terror attacks that has taken placed than I'm sure you would want to fight for their justice and want others to help you. Yes we should have focused more on Afghanistan, but we have a man in the big seat that wanted to make himself look better than his dad (which failed) and we have no choice but to protect our families from what he started. This isn't a game. You cant just start over after you lost all your men. So we have to stand our grounds and stay strong. Most of the men that is over there now knows that this was what they signed up for and that is what they wanted to do with their life. So it is only smart to support them. It would be nice if we could live our life the way you stated but the truth is we just cant do that especially now. But you should be proud and support these men over there no matter what they have to do( cuz once you sign up you have no choice was to do) because you never know if it wasn't for our men and our wars you may not have been able to sit and type on a computer. or watch tv or so much more that we are able to do now. Thank you
A vets wife,
Becky

"I am an American, but not sure if I am proud to be one."
-- Have you ever lived in another country? Worked in an NGO in a foreign country? Served or volunteered as a part of your government? Do you have a frame of reference to speak about being an American besides being a passive citizen? I'm not trying to be harsh but this kind of attitude usually comes from people that really don't know much about the rest of the world and what it is really like.
"We are hated by other countries and are fighting a war that we don't even know why we are fighting it anymore. Did we EVER know why?"
-- Most people would remember that UN weapon inspectors (not US inspectors) catalogued thousands of pounds of weaponized chemical agents that are still unaccounted for that the Iraqi government refused to destroy at the end of the first war. Chemical weapons that they have used on civilian targets. Iraq was also continuously violating the peace treaty they signed at the end of the Gulf War by firing on US, British, Canadian, and German aircraft on an almost daily basis. Iraq also had a habit of attacking their neighbors continuously (read a history of Iraq). Iraq also had an advanced nuclear program (until the Israelis took it out). Basically, it was only a matter of time before the Iraqi government had to be taken out in the greater interest of peace and stability. That is, unless you don't like living in a modern western society with electricity, cars, trucks, planes, trains, ships, factories, schools, internet, etc.. Like it or not, civilization is currently dependent on oil and can go without the oil producing nations destroying each other or monopolizing the resource.
"All wars never solve anything anyway."
-- Are you still a loyal British subject of the crown? Still paying homage to pirate nations? Living under a facist Nazi government? Or else a subjucate of the Japanese? Driving a car and living in a modern society thanks to fossil fuels? A faithful communist with no real freedom? Dead or worshiping Mohammad while living under Sharia law? I could go on, but suffice it to say that only the ignorant would make that statement.
"It just gets innocent people kills and incites people to more violent attitudes and tendencies."
-- Good point. Perhaps you would be the first to approach a mujahadin and explain to him that you are a pacifist? I'm sure he'd love to hear your side of the story as an American citizen and all.
"We have so many problems in THIS country. Why don't we (soldiers) just stay home and we can pocket the money foolishly spent killing and can use it for something useful?"
-- Are you seriously suggesting that the US bring all it's soldiers home? Just like they did at the end of WWI? Are you even faintly aware of how many conflicts would engulf the world if the US did that? Last time I checked, we had a reason for the soldiers being in Germany, South Korea, Japan, Italy, etc. You may not have lived through the wars that engulfed the world but it really wasn't that long ago and neither was the world war that proceeded that one. And to top it all off, if the US government had decided to kick back and only worry about domestic problems there would be no US domestic anything.
I am not "Pro-War." But what you are saying is old regurgitated hippie dogma. Read a history book and try to understand the world you live in. Think for yourself.

You have made an indictment you can't back up. What makes you think the Global War on Terror is responsible for, how many suicides? Either give up some data or keep your pie hole shut.
Why are the S-Ps treating this war as they did the Viet Nam action? Strictly for political gain. They are responsible for more military deaths than anything by undermining this administration, the President, and anyone else who gets in their way.
The hatred from the rest of the world is because of the 24/7 news cycle promoting the far left agenda by the Elite Media, all elite media. Detrimental lies from agenda driven politicians are reported or not, as the case may be, we know the media doesn't report the news accurately, if at all. There is plenty of evidence they too have bought this war and can't afford for this administration to prevail.
You, in particular, must remember how the vote went in 2002. Nearly unanimous consent by all except one. He is running for president. He didn't know what he was doing then and he sure as hell doesn't know what he is doing now. His mistakes have been humongous, and he wants to be president.

i am very proud to be American. I dont agree with this war, and i will agree with you that we dont know why we are in it, and that is because Bush is not being truthful.
As for your comment that Wars solve nothing, what about the civil war, not only did it free the Slaves but it also brought about the reformation of the union, (Had there been no civil war who knows what would have happened, America could still be two seperate countries?)
The Revelution brought about the Creation of this nation. Wars are truly amazing "Things" They can create countries, they can destroy countries, they can slow the progress of man, and change the course of history. Wars can solve alot of things, just a few are completey unneeded.

You need to study alittle history. Your generalizations about war are incorrect. Take a look at the American Revolution, The American Civil war, World war 1 and 2. These wars didn't solve anything? You are wrong.

While I do not support this war I DO support our troops, my husband just came home from Iraq.
Wars must be fought and while it is sad, young men must die because freedom isn't free. It comes at a price, and unfortunately that price is human life. I almost lost my husband many times while he was in Iraq and I can say that good is being done over there.
Terrorists are like wild animals and the only way to stop them is to kill them. You can't negotiate with them, you can't reason with them, and you can't say "Please Mr. Terrorist, please leave me alone...I don't want to fight." because then we might as well just put Osama bin Laden in the White House.
And here's a question for you. What are you willing to do to help solve any of the problems in this country or abroad? Like JFK said in is Inaugriation speach "Ask not what this country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."
I have lent my husband, and many friends and family to preserve the basic freedoms that you enjoy. Some have not returned. None regret a day of their service to this country, and that's including this war, Desert Storm, and Vietnam.
Plus this country won it's freedom from a war, so war can solve problems. And the World Wars solved problems, got rid of mad men charge (like Hitler).
Don't generalize so much, and why not approach things from a proactive stance.

You don't know what started the war or what we're fighting over? It's so stupid.... I'll post that on the internet for any soldier with a laptop to read. Um..thought about that?

In addition to the many viable reasons above for our troops to commit suicide while deployed, you can also add the fact that they don't get a lot of support from main stream media and wacky liberals. When they need our country to unite and support them and their efforts, they get mixed messages, which can be very demoralizing.
Have you gotten it yet? The attitude of your question is EXACTLY the type of thing that undermines morale.

Take a look at the figures. 99 suicides. 28 among those deployed to the two combat theaters. 71 who were not. That's 99 suicides in a population of 500,000.
You see, I read past the headline.

You are right! Other then ending slavery, defeating communism, stopping the Nazis, stopping fascism, ending genocide, defending our allies and freeing the oppressed war never solved anything!
