I am in the middle of reading the bible. I mean, I've read verses, passages before, but this time I'm actually reading it all the way through. So, do you think it's harmful if I read the Koran, or other religious books? I mean, they're about God right? So even though other books may have a different view, there must be some good things I could gather from them right? But, would the public library have the Koran or the Torah? I really don't know how to get a hold of this stuff, but I want to further my religious learning and my relationship with God. Can anyone help?

No, of course it can't harm. Seeking to further knowledge is never a bad thing. And if you are secure in your faith it should be no problem to stare another faith in the face without flinching and who knows, you might could learn something or get inspired. Most public libraries will have copies of the Koran...don't know about the Torah but I'm fairly confident they would have that as well. If not you can get them to order it.

The Torah is the same as the first five books of the Old Testament. The Koran will introduce you to some concepts that may be unusual to the western mind. But in the interest of education, why not?

Read Think Read Think Read.. Take a course in comparative religion. I know of a very smart Franciscan Father Professor who is an expert on Calvin. There are Catholic Priests who know Arabic and have studied the Koran extensively. The Koran is an amazing faith testament to God, why not read it?

Your Library probably has the Koran and the Torah in it's religious section. I have also read the Koran from the library.I thought it was easier to read than the Bible, but that was just my opinion.

It can not harm - a person who ask this question is smart enough to determine what applies to them and what does not.
Public libraries may have Koran or Torah copies. You are also likely to find them book stores.
You can also try on line site - which can help you narrow down to subjects of interest..good luck

There is, in my opinion, no harm in reading other texts. I took a class on Far East lit as seen through their various religious texts and it was a most enjoyable class. Many seminaries even have classes on other texts. Enjoy. I don't know where to get books like that (for free). My library doesn't have any. But your's might.

No. How can one become educated if they do not read? Read as many religious texts as possible, you can gain insight into the human condition. At the very least, some make for good bedtime stories (although some will give you nightmares!).....

No. Knowledge is always good, and just reading something doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to convert to those beliefs. It also means is that you are able to make your own INFORMED decision about things, as opposed to relying on the opinions of others to make your mind up for you.
