In an effort to be more respectful to Christians and believers, I'm doing my best to balance my sarcasm and cynicism with kind remarks. Unfortunately, I find a few people harshing that mellow.

"not sure where the comedy comes in? sounds like r&s, where most of the contributors are neither...

can't keep the non-believers out because it would be politically incorrect, so of course this is a forum for whatever."

Why is that necessary?

If anyone complains about my decision to post this question, I want to make it clear that it's important to point out the rude comments. It serves multiple purposes, but mostly, it calls out the people who make comments like this.

I encourage anyone to call out anything I've said that is hateful or rude. Mind you, don't ask me to stop being sarcastic and cynical. Those are personality traits. But hatefulness or rudeness is what kills the fun here.

I hardly come here to have people agree with me. I have friends for that. ;)

All anyone has to do is look at the questions I've asked. When I want to pick someone who agrees with me, I say so in my explanation for choosing the best answer. But I often pick people I don't agree with.

You can't teach college English and pay attention only to those who agree with you. To do otherwise is unethical and unprofessional.

And I mean everyone answering. I can't ask others to stop being unnecessarily rude if I don't hold myself to it as well.

I thought the story was humorous. I am a Christian and will never deny it, even if mocked. I live my life to the best of my ability in line with the bible. I have learned what I don't want to become as a Christian from the rude remarks of others that claim to be a Christian. I have learned by sharing a forum with people who are Atheist, Pagan, or any other belief represented here, that people are people. No one group has a lock on all truth or all wisdom, but we can unite under a banner of a sense of humor or sometimes compassion. People that spout hate and filth only show themselves to be ignorant and ill-bred. I have never mocked another persons faith system, or lack of belief in any entity. I have answered honestly to Christians who want to defend a teaching that is clearly not a teaching of Christ. If a question is something I am not comfortable with, I can move on. I will take the liberty of apologizing for all who would call themselves Christians, [though I am far from a perfect spokesperson,] for rude and condemning remarks. It brings no honor to them or the One they claim to worship, and I feel sorry for them. I have never saw a posting of yours that I thought was rude, or was singling out one group. You have a sarcastic sense of humor and I appreciate that. Your question was one that should cause every person here to stop and think before posting.

What the heck are you talking about? You're beating around the bush, then beating around the bush, then beating around the bush.
Are you sure you got the right link? I saw nothing hateful or rude, in fact it as funny. And since you didn't really say anything in your question, what is it you want us to agree with?

That Q was about a course that was not sponsored by the school that had an all inclusive title. That's what made it funny because the kids couldn't determine what kind of course they wanted, all they knew was that they wanted to get together as a group. Kids are kids and sometimes do funny stuff. I laughed.

I agree that rudeness is unnecessary. The question was in good fun and shows some of the lengths people will go to avoid upsetting anyone. I think some people just enjoy being disagreeable. I don't get it either.

*Edit, ah Ward dear, I think the Beav is missing the point of the current question. I don't think the point is about disagreeing, but about being unnecessarily rude. Set him straight please.

Still thinking here, did you mean the people answering or yourself. Sometimes I get confused. =P

I wish I could find the source of this quote, which has been attributed to Will Rogers:

"If we write or say something that agrees with you, why then we become quite a smart guy in your estimation. But if we should write or say something that don't agree with your idea of the same subject, then we become a 'menace' and should be eliminated from the public print.... There is not any of us real sure what we are yapping about"

I scanned the answer thread there and about 90% were positive comments. There's always going to be some jackasses around, and I think the signal-to-noise ratio on that particular question was reasonable. I've seen it much worse.

I try not to be rude, but with the posts lately, it's difficult. I see no reason for it, either. I try to rationalize that there are a lot of immature kids here. I don't think adults would be like that...but I could be wrong.

Jack makes a very good point.
It isn't necessary to be rude. I always have a difficult time with those who have no clue how to be genteel.

Everyone accusing everyone else of this and that... does it REALLY matter in the grand scheme of things?

I agree with you 100%

People have forgotten how to be polite and think that they have to be rude in order to make a point.
