Does the military force people to use their right hand? I wouldn't think they would do that - it would make those left-handed weaker, more vulnerable. I doubt they would bother enforcing that.

On a few things...like you always salute with the right hand...just as when you begin to march you start with the right foot. But not with weapons and writing and things like that. with the exception that on the firing range, every one has to fire from prone, standing, right barracade and left barracade to qualify and show that they can.

It goes back to the M-1 and M-14. The operating rod would come straight back at the eye of a lefty. Everyone had to qualify Right handed.

nope, they just tell you in basic that lefties will sometimes get hit with brass when they are at the shooting range. Because the weapons are designed for right hand use, but Ive never heard of anything like that and Ive heard some whacked out, outer-space type stories in my 4.5 years in the Army

No, they don't but there are certain things that do require you use your right hand.

But they won't require you use your right hand in everything.

My husband is left handed and has been in the army for almost 13 years.
