You can make a lot of money with a merchant mariner's license. But he would be away lot - it's relatively safe though and after he gets higher licenses, you can change employers. I had considered it, sometimes I wish I had, sometimes I'm glad I didn't.

i am not familiar with it but wanted to say ' God bless you" my son is in the army and i know how hard it is for all and his children when a husband and father is gone for long periods of time. i hope you have a good support network.

This is a very safe job and it pays very well. When the sea is in your veins you'll do anything to get back to it.
