Not writing this to start any controversy just thought it was funny. True story, I attended my son’s high school orientation tonight. They gave us a packet that had sign up sheets for some extra-curricular activities such as Spanish club, etc. One of the clubs listed was the "Christian Athletes Club". Nothing wrong with that but the description really caught my attention and I quote: "The Christian Athletes Club is a place for students to come and discuss athletics, academics and spiritual issues. (Members do not have to be athletes or Christians to attend)".
Why not call it the kids talking about stuff club if neither noun listed in the title applies?
Have a good evening and God Bless.

Thanks for the comments and just an edit to answer a couple posts.
Yes, public school (but one of the better ones academically and great wrestling team which is good for my son) in the area when we moved here this summer it seemed the best/only athletic/academic option in the area. There is not a lot of high school options around the university where I work. The program is not school sponsored just something the kids do afterwards.

Yeah, that's pretty hilarious. Welcome to the Christian Athletes Club, where pudgy Buddhists discuss algebra. LOL

Jason... LOL sounds to me that someone wanted to have a club where they could discuss "religion" yet either didn't want the stigma of being a "Christian" for personal reasons, or, were trying to have a Christian Group and had to follow acceptable guidelines in order to do so....unfortunately, in a highschool, popularity often drops if considered a Christian (for Jocks) and, also unfortunately, in order to have anything "Christian" in many schools, you have to re-word everything so it doesn't offend someone's own belief or non belief, and that it cannot be classified as a "closed" membership... got to be politically correct, you know.
Peace be with you :)

Wow. That is funny. (Sort of sad, but funny.) It sounds to me that starting a club called "The Christian Athletes Club" and then saying that you don't need to be Christian or and athlete to attend, it means that it's some Christian kids who are planning to use it as an opportunity to evangelize. They're just hiding it under the guise of a sporty sort of club. I guarantee that if a non-Christian shows up, that's exactly what's going to happen. And then they'll say "Well, it IS the CHRISTIAN athletes club, so what did you expect we were going to talk about?"

I think it is silly to have a "christian athletics" club in the first place. Why don't they start a "vegan chess" club or a "Hindu welding" club while they are at it?

How many kids you know that DON'T like to associate themselves to something that SOUNDS important ? We all live in an world which is full of peer pressure and "names, uniforms, associations, religion etc." Some of us like carrying around over inflated egos, even if "behind" the illusion comes respect through all that is a FAKE or untrue.

Hahaha. That's great.
Honestly, I don't think this is really an "acceptance" thing, but rather a way of saying "That's OK if you're bad at sports or don't believe in our religion: we'll work at converting you to one of us."

not sure where the comedy comes in? sounds like r&s, where most of the contributors are neither...
can't keep the non-believers out because it would be politically incorrect, so of course this is a forum for whatever.
sounds like that club is using a pc description too. will atheist non-athletes attend? it's not likely...
