Is it against the military to be a part of a subculture. I have took interest in a subculture that has been known to have a "bad" name. The cops have labled the groups as being "violent" but the group is far from violent. Its not a gang. I dont know if you know what Straight Edge is, but thats something I have been interested in...and what are the consequences if the army disapproves of a soldier being associated with "violent" groups...even if they aren't violent.

The military does look into the activities of many groups, and if one is considered to be "contrary to good conduct and morale," then the group is placed off limits.
Once a group is off limits, military members face disciplinary procedures if caught associating with that group. Doesn't matter if YOU think it is safe or not. Only matters what the military says for it's members.
Hope that helps. - BTW, how does this have ANYTHING to do with singles and dating?

Retired military here. The thing that you have to remember is that the group doesn't need to be violent, and you don't have to believe it is or isn't violent....If the military has labled the group as a subculture or a violent group, or has in any way put them on the taboo list, you had best remain away from it or give up your military career the hard way. The consequences could be brig time, courts martial, and/or dishonorable discharge for violating rules & regs and direct disobedience of orders. Sorry.. wait until your time is done and you are out of the service.
