Free-to-air, alias over-the-air (OTA). This is the same thing that anyone can pick up today with rabbit-ears or a rooftop antenna. OTA digital television (ATSC) uses the same set of channels that current standard-definition (NTSC) tv uses.

Free to air HDTV is just that...HD signals broadcast by your local TV station affiliates in your area. If you have an antenna and your TV has an HD tuner you can receive over the air HD.
