As posted by Ted Rall on July 31 on yahoo opinion,it feels to many of us that more and more traffic citations are being given. Many of us are on the verge of loosing our drivers licenses.I, for one, have driven the same way for decades ,with not one accident to my name.
Usually that means driving with traffic, not much faster or slower so as to maintain a smooth flow.

What happens when democracy says (for example on 285 perimeter Atlanta) the tax paying usually hard working popualtion vote with their feet to drive on average 73 mph .What happens to the large percent of drivers that go over 55 mph(stated limit)? They get screwed.

Limits have to be reasonable and must not be viewed as a money making machine.

The only far way to set limits is to see what the people do when no cops are around.Tabulate the data, and find out where the 2 standard (or 1.5)deviation point is and make it illegal above that.

Don't we vote for everything else?

Why don't more abused motorists speak up?

Slow down. That is a sure fire way to avoid a speeding ticket.

Stop charging for speeding start charging for reckless endangerment and criminal charges rather than fines and demerits trivalizing any seriousness of the law. Remove speed limits at the same time.

Also make sure that self determined reasonableness is brought into effect at any incident court cases.

Mindful people should have half a brain not to risk their lives or other peoples - as manslaughter charges or otherwise - potential would hopefully be a deterrent to drive at a "safe or recommended" speed - rather than a legal speed.

Once the idiots are off the road traffic issues should subside a little. - Slow death by tickets or short one by --- well death or in a backward system perhaps prison..

The reason is that some people disagree with the people that set the speed limit - innately. You could also guess that for everyone hit with the ticket there could be others that weren't.

At least in my mind I view the public as seeing speeding tickets as taking a risk - Not being a criminal. Cause it is some money and a warning not jail time or a lethal injection.

-------

I think that people like to "create order" and containment rather then let people think for themselves, because government forces systematic culture on people like that, because it ain't libertarian it is generally closed systems of governance that arn't all fancy. Frankly I think that they don't see tickets as "serious" it is the bottom end of the courts - they are just fines. Once cars get more tracking on them - or due to privacy issues the highways as they exist the absolute liabilities just start doing it and people are guilty at default. People can challenge it but it'll likely be technology taking the place of "was it legal, was it a crime?"

Now it is 'were you there' - of course the technology is accurate - after all that is what we designed to solve the wasted time hearing issues about traffic tickets. Afterall if we didn't pay the cops for showing up, they probably wouldn't, cause they don't care about it either.

Fact is technology can be tampered with , malfunction, or otherwise. Same goes for radar guns since it is energy... before radar guns how did cops measure speeding?

It is like a "special tax"... anyway I don't agree with it - I understand why it is there, but it doesn't seem 'mindful' of a progressive and ideal society.

Bear in mind once you get your liscence suspened or your driving privilege revoked for life, it likely becomes a little more serious - but it is the gradual - well I won't loose it right away - identity that probably lets people go - well it's not like it is a point of no return - keep going.

Although it seems like - yah there would be more accidents - there is that autobahn thing too, and other speed limitless highways already in existance so...

look back to when the tickets came into effect - what was the reason - why did the public accept it?

Your breakin' my heart, putzie! You and the rest of the abused motoring public need to be sent back to the classroom after a second ticket for any moving violation. I want you, you bleeding heart to go and volunteer in the biggest trauma center in Atlanta on a Friday or Saturday night. Then come back to your keyboard and we'll see what you have to say. But you won't do it because you can't handle it. All you see is the money you are giving to the local and state government because they are picking on you for driving 20 mph over the limit. I have driven 285 many times and will drive it some more because I hate driving through Georgia and want to get thru it before some abused idiot runs up my gas hole.

Get a city alderman or county commissioner to sponsor your foolhardy request. They won't do it because it is a money maker for the local economy and there isn't anything you can do about it except SLOW DOWN, you'll live a bit longer.

slow down, you will get there anyways. If you were not speedning you probably would not have gotten a ticket. If that is not an option, you can always buy a radar detector and test your luck as you drive.

Don't speed and you won't get a ticket.

I mean that is pretty simple.

If you feel a speed limit is too low, contact your city council person or state representive.

So you got a speeding ticket and now you are trying to weasel your way out of it. You broke the law and you got charged ... how is that abuse? Pay the ticket, stop speeding, and please stop whining!
