Do I need special film or speed to capture it clearly

You do not need special film, but you do need a tripod for the camera.

One way to do the shutter speed is to set it for 30 sec and then wait for the lightning (not lightening) to flash.

The second way is to use a shutter release cable and hold open the shutter until you have captured the lightning strike. Obviously this second method works best in a very dark area so that you can hold the shutter open as long as necessary to capture the lightning.

Using film means you have to try several settings and hope you catch a printable image. Using a digital camera, you can use the same kinds of settings, but you can see the results right away.

Put your camera on a tripod, aimed at a likely spot for a lightning strike (a steeple, a large tree in an open field, etc.) Set your camera on time exposure, so the shutter stays open. Then wait and hope for a strike. Obviously you can do this only at night, not during daylight hours.

night time use a tripod, use 30 sec exposure, fire the shot before the lighting and if it goes while your shutter is open you will get a lightning image
