Hello everyone and good evening,

I am going to be attending a charity gala in Toronto on November 3rd, and being that it will be my first time in the city, I would like to know if anyone can recommend an area of the city (or perhaps the suburbs) where I might look into getting a room. I don't mind traveling on the subway, as long as I can be within walking distance, no more than half a mile at least. Also, what areas are undesirable and should be avoided? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!-Steve.

A nice, downtown hotel is the Holiday Inn on King. It is very central to all the restaurants and shops, and within a short walk of St. Andrew subway station.

If you like the suburbs, there's a Novotel in North York near Yonge and Empress. It is connected to the subway without one having to go outdoors.

If you have some money, consider the Royal York -- across from the main train station -- or the Park Hyatt or Four Seasons in Yorkville, which is the upscale (movie star-type) neighbourhood.

I'd stay away from any lakeside hotel; it will be too cold to enjoy the lake.

Being that I am from the city I can help but where in Toronto is the gala? Downtown, East End, etc? There are hotels all over the place but Downtown is very pricey.

IF you are willing to spend some dough the places Downtown are great. I also would recommend the Crowne Plaza which is about a 20 minute drive from downtown.

If you want to splurge then Try the Sheraton Centre Toronto hotel. Its not cheap but very nice and the staff are quite friendly.

I'm going there with my parents in September, we're staying at the Marriot Residence Inn, it's rated the #1 hotel in Toronto and its brand new!

This one, right downtown, would be a great choice. Walking distance to anywhere in the city, in a very good location:
