My partner and I have decided to cycle across New Zealand. We are interested to hear other travellers stories and to find out expected costs, routes, etc.
Please let us know if you have any feedback.
Cheers

I haven't personally cycled across NZ - but when I lived there in the south island there was always tourists doing this. Don't know where they get the energy to be honest LOL.
Just be aware there are alot of hills ! Guess going down would be the fun part ....
Anyhow enjoy your trip.

We see many cyclists here, doing this. I would see this as perfectly feasible. Don't underestimate the distance between villages you will actually find accommodation in. Some places that are portrayed as stately enough on maps are actually pretty serene. I would pre-book accommodation well ahead of time just to make sure, although camping will always be an option if you feel so inclined.
I don't know where you are writing from, but I feel I should warn you about the fact that NZ drivers are not the most skilled, so don't count on being extremely safe while doing this. Everybody will do their best of course to keep you safe, but roads are low-visibility here, and many, especially local, drivers are overly couragious and may be quite surprised to see you since there never used to be any bikers during the past 17 years they came ripping around that bend.
It's not exactly Holland in terms of cycling is all I'm trying to say, but if you can arrange yourself with that reality (and wear a helmet, it's the law here), you'll love the rest of it, because the sights and the air and the light and the general, mellow feel of it are wonderful.

This probably won't help, but I have heard New Zealand is actually very cheap once you get there. Enjoy!
