I would enter the shopping process with an open mind -- no commitment to any style. Try on a bunch of dresses of all styles -- straight, big skirts, trains, no trains, detachable trains, lace, ruffles, appliques -- everything. There will be one that you love and that will make your mom's eyes fill with tears. It may be a different look and a different color than what you thought you wanted when you began the journey -- wedding dresses are funny -- your preconceived notion of the "right" dress may look awful, and a dress you thought you might hate turns out to make you look inexplicably gorgeous.
If, at the end of the process, the dress you love is a ball gown, then you can truthfully tell your hubby (after the wedding) that you tried on dresses that you thought he might like, but that they just didn't work, and you wanted to look your absolute best for him.

You are the bride, you get to decide. You can probably find a nice compromise dress. Ex: ball gown flowy skirt but tight, low cut top. Or the kind that is straight in the front but has the long flowy train so it's all bride-y. Get what you are comfortable with, you are the one wearing it. And he will like it. It's nice that he loves your body and wants to 'show you off' a bit. But it's not the main focus of the day.

Your fiance did give you his opinion and it is his wedding too so I say try to compromise on the dress. Check The Knot and Brides.com and look through the designs, you just might find something you like and your fiance will be happy with too. Brides always say its all about them but that's not the right way to enter a marriage, its about being in love together and compromise.

No, you are not. Wear what you like. My finace knows he gets to pick his tux, and I get to pick my gown and that he has no opinion on the matter. You will regret wearing one of the straight dresses, so get the kind you want. A compromise might be to get one that isn't so broad if you are looking at the really poofy ones so that you still get the look but the groom won't be intimidated by the big gown. Some guys just don't get it, so do what you want.

I personally think that your fiance should keep out of your bridal wedding dress selection. This is a special day in your life and I really don't think it is selfish of you, you just want the type of dress you always dreamed of. Discuss with him, telling him that you feel that this is every girls dream to pick her dream dress, and he shouldn't interfere in the style you should pick. Make a deal...give him free reign on what type of tux he should wear.

Don't listen to the people who say he wont mind or he will think you look beautiful in anything, he told you what he wanted you to wear so that is his opinion. The truth is that most women want a demure modest princess dress and men want something more sexy. I would wear a straight dress if that's what my fiance would want. It's his wedding too and you don't want to disappoint him or not look good to him. There are so many beautiful sheath dresses to choose from, why not try some on and see how you feel before making a decision.

How does he even know what wedding gowns look like? Most men have no clue about wedding dresses unless you have been showing him pictures.
Stop showing him pictures, pick out what you want to wear and surprise him.

Unless he is wearing the dress, he doens't get to pick!!
Find a dress you love, it doesn't matter what you choose he will still think you are gorgeous! You can find one that is a ball gown but also a little sexy, maybe sleveless or off the shoulder. I'm sure he won't mind, he won't be looking at your dress ayway just you!

Wear the dress YOU want - maybe you can find a ball gown that's low cut & sexy enough that he won't even notice the skirt!
