ok so i want your all's opinion....which must be backed up with facts ex: statistics, numbers, stuff like that. and please make it easy to understand....no big fancy science words. just make it plain and simple.

it could, but there is no EVIDENCE for it. look at the facts -- the earth goes through cycles, cycles that last sometimes thousands of years. with only about 100 years of recorded temperature measurements, you can't predict what will happen centuries down the road. people say things like "well, it's about 3 degrees hotter now than it was in the nineties, and that's unnatural." well who's to say things like that didn't happen before? and also, it's naive when people say things like "well in my hometown it's about 5 degrees hotter than it was last year..". even global warming advocates admit the temperature can raise THAT fast -- temp. raising like that happens all the time, the earth goes through cycles.

Is global warming real? Yes. But the real question is whether man is the main cause of global warming. To that the answer is no. To date, there is no scientific data to back up the assertion that man is causing global warming. There is reems of data suggesting man has no effect on the weather. Instead of listing tons of facts, here are some websites you can read. they say everything much more eloquently than I.

The first link is long, but filled with facts. The second link is even more telling. It lists many prominent scientist who originally believed in man made global warming, but have since changed their minds because of the scientific work they did. So much for the whole "consensus" arguement. The third link is meaningful because it gives solid reasons why many scientist claim Man Made global warming will kill us all, even though the evidence does not support this. And yes, it is all about the money.

There are hundreds of more sites out there. Google Al Gore global warming debate, and see all the scientist who want to debate Al. but, unfortunately he is running the other way. It is difficult to argue an idea when the scientific data shows otherwise.

The science is too uncertain to answer this question.

In a recent Heartland Institute publication, Scientific Consensus on Global Warming: Results of an International Survey of Climate Scientists, Joseph L. Bast and James M. Taylor have compiled the work of two German environmental scientists. Dennis Bray and Hans von Storch conducted a survey among more than 530 climate scientists from 27 different countries in both 1996 and 2003. Their findings include:

· Most scientists don’t believe scientific knowledge is sufficient to predict future climate

· Most do not believe computer models “accurately verify climate conditions”

· Most believe global warming would have some positive as well as negative effects

· Most believe the science is too unsettled to form a basis for public policy

Global warming is without a doubt real. I would say that it has not been caused by humans, our actions were only a catalyst. The Earth very well could have been on its way to warming up, but with all of the carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases we burnt trapping sunlight in our atmosphere, we caused an increase in the rate that the icecaps are melting, in effect releasing even more greenhouse gas into our environment and trapping in more of the suns harmful rays. So basically, now we have completely screwed ourselves and even with the advent and research of new fuels and energies, it is very possible that it is already to late. If the earth keeps going at this rate i believe the amazon will dry up in something like 13 more years. Eventually we will either be living with an incredibly short ammount of things that we need for living and our planet will no longer be able to sustain human life. Who knows though, this could have happened to our planet 30 times already.

Real, because of the scientific data. It's too much stuff to post here, but these three links should be easy to read. It will take some time, there is much information available.

Here's a nice simple picture:

http://www.globalwarmingart.com/wiki/Image:Climate_Change_Attribution.png

Here is proof that the arguments of the skeptics (and I'm sure you'll get some here) are false. It's long, but broken down into 26 "myths".

http://environment.newscientist.com/channel/earth/dn11462

This is the bottom line:

"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”

Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut and the first Commander of the Naval Space Command

Good website for more scientific information (not politics), with great pictures and graphs. Long.

My opinion is that global warming is real. In a way it is fancy science because we are talking about an increase in greenhouses gases in the atmosphere which absorb infra red radiation (heat) formed from the sun's ultra violet radiation hitting the earth thus providing a blanket under which the earth is warming. The principal greenhouse gas of concern is CO2 which is naturally cycled to and from the atmosphere from plants land and sea. We have observed an approximate 30% rise in CO2 levels over the past 100 years due to man's activities, in the main the burning of fossil fuels. Probably the simplest explanation I have seen is at http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/kids/cc.html . Bob above has provided much more comprehensive links.

It was getting warmer, but now is cooling. All you have to do is look at the output of the sun over the last 4 years. And watch the alarmists scramble to create lies masked in junk science to explain why this year was not as warm as the climate model projections. And the next year and the year after that, until finally the world losses interest and begins worrying about influenza again.

http://lasp.colorado.edu/cgi-bin/ion-p?page=input_data_for_tsi.ion

Or you can choose to look at one one of poor old Bobs links below in which they will tell that the sun's output has not changed for thirty years. An absolute bald face lie, the graph above clearly shows a .8 watt/M2 drop in ouput. Undeniable proof that the sun controls our climate.

sorry i dont have numbers or stats but i know that global warming is real. it is a very important issue but the thing is i find that the truth behind it is not always apparent. Many things about it are exaggerated and i doubt that the ice age will happen that soon. i guess u can start to see the affects of global warming now like changes in weather and weird storms but thats why everyone has to do their part now..(easier said then done).. good luck and i hope you find what your looking for..

Real! Even those who earlier completely denied man-made global warming now has shifted their opinions.

Thanks to JOHN WALKUP in another thread here on Y!A I've just watched a report about the previous "naysayers of global warming"

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619/ (You have to scroll down to find it.)

It concludes: "The scientific debate is no longer over societies role on global warming. It is now a matter of degree."

Its real, the question should be is it caused by man.

4000 years ago it was as warm as it is know. This is proved by the fact that .
1. As the glaciers in Sweden have receded silver mines dating to that period have been found.
2. The ice man found frozen under a glacier in the alps in the 90s died about that time also.

If global warming is caused by man how could this be possible.

We are not helping prevent global warming but were not the cause.
