I am sorry to hear that.

Anyway, a nurse would always try to do her best to care for the patients. A nurse would try to keep the patient in comfort as much as she can. A nurse would always try to meet the needs of the patient as much as she can. But.... a nurse could not help to keep the dying patient alive.

Yes, it is true that the nurses along with the medical team try to exert all efforts to maintain the life of the patient. In the case of your cousin, I believe it is a case that all measures and support are given to keep him comfortable and continue to have life. In the time of death however, there is order of not doing any action to try to revive him.

Usually patients who are terminally ill are given all the supportive care. Decision are made up by the medical team and a committee of what to do in a moment their vital functions stop (stop breathing, the heart stop beating...). The nurse caring for the dying patient would do whatever is stipulated on the orders. Just like what happened to your cousin, they tried to put him in comfort and just let him go naturally when the time came.

Unfortunately, even us nurses can't keep someone from death. It may have been that your cousin had advanced directives(a document which clearly states what treatment the patient wants if the situation may be a terminal situation). It is hard to be a nurse and not try to save someone. even when you know nothing can be done...It is hard to help families cope with their loss and know what to say in every situation.

I am very sorry your cousin died. Please take good care of yourself through the grieveing process..

well it depends of what your cousin died of it might have been because there was nothing the the nurse could of done sometimes if a condition is terminal then they just have to let nature take its course

either way i am sorry for your loss : (
