Neosporin should be fine.

Also, consider using a double-acting antibacterial ointment if you plan to apply ointment for a couple weeks instead of using Neosporin (a triple-acting ointment). Neosporin contains neomycin which can lead to an allergic reaction if used too often. However, occasional use should be fine.

Personally I don't think that's a good idea. Wash it gently and try not to remove the scab if one is forming. If there are no stitches, from the sound of it I believe it should be left to form a scab, (cauterized)? If the wound was cauterized by the Doctor that means he wants it to form a scab, putting a neosporin type product on it will delay the scabbing over process. I think it should be left alone and covered with a bandage or air dried. Give Tylenol or Advil for pain.

By all means! First clean with hydrogen peroxide. Then apply ointment and cover with a band-aid.
