If you plug an electric fire in and touch the metal coil near the end junction can this give you an electric shock or kill you?

Yes, possible, depending on the voltage and conditions, like the impedance between the coil, ground and you. Consider it dangerous.

Assuming that heater has an exposed coil that is like touching a live wire. If your body has a good connection to the ground to complete the circuit that could easily kill you.

To prevent that some heaters have a heating element that is inside a tube surrounded by an electrical insulating material. In that case you are not touching a live wire and electrocution is not going to happen.

depends on the Amps of said electric fire.
remember, it's not the Wattage that kill you, but the Ampage.
personally, if I'd plugged something in, i wouldn't touch the inner workings.
if anything, it'll be very hot (what with being a fire). At worst, it'll kill you.
I've never tried it myself, but I'd avoid it, & consult an electrican.

if you have a pace maker then the electric shock could kill you

if it gives you a shock and you fall down and hit your head then that could kill you too
