Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim - In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah
Wearing fake nails is not permitted because it keeps water from getting to your real nails. If water does not get onto your whole hand including your nails, then your wudu', your ablution before the prayer, is not valid, and without a valid wudu' your prayer is not valid either. Also, wearing fake nails is a way of tabarruj, an adornment for seeking to attract the attention of men, and thus is not allowed as well. You should not worry about the fashion of fake nails and instead seek to simply make sure that your nails are clean underneath, neatly trimmed, and buffed. It is very unhealthy to wear fake nails and polish that makes an airtight barrier because the nails need the air to go in and out of the nail bed. If you really would like some color on your nails, you may use henna, as it is a stain that penetrates the nail and does not make a waterproof barrier. This is common in Muslim countries and does not attract undue attention, but if you think it will attract undue attention from strange men, it is better to avoid this. And Allah knows best.
Fi Aman Allah,

Some people say no, because when doing wudu, you can't cleanse the nail properly with a fake nail over top of it.
I do it though. Personally, i think there are worse things a person can do, and i don't believe i will be condemned to hell because i was wearing fake nails when praying...

I think fake nails would fall under the same category as nail polish. The water still can't reach to make wuduu.

I am not a muslim and am STILL answering your question since I don't like being told what NOT to do, and I spent 12 years out of 30 growing up in a muslim country.
the answer is NO, what are you thinking?
why do you even have to ask such questions.
you already answered it with the no nail polish bit.
