If you want a literal translation get the New American Standard version. King James is a dead language and hard to understand. New International version is easiest to understand for English speaking people. There are parallel versions that give you several translations. Beware of paraphrased versions like the Living bible. These were not done by a team of scholars,
The original languages of the bible were Koine Greek and Hebrew with some Aramaic so if you plan on furthering your study its good to get a parallel version.

You can get many of them for under $10 on Amazon.com.
You can call or write the Mormon church, and they will bring you one, and speak with you about it.
You can download one from Amazon for $16 and it's read by James Earl Jones ( now That is enough to make me consider it ).
The most common version appears to be the King James Bible.

Dollar stores often sell King James versions for $1. Other versions written in modern English like the New King James version or New Living translation make for quicker understanding to modern Americans.

I like the Spirit Fiiled Life Bible. A New King James Version. General Editor, Jack W. Hayford. For me, it is easy to read and has additonal sections that offer more info to help with understanding. At the end of each book is a Section called Truth-In-Action that gives an overview of what it is you just read.

Go to your local church and see the minister there and tell him that you would like to borrow a bible,so that you have a better insight on how to deal with the Christian Population on
Y / A.
I am sure he would give you one,if not then walk into the Church and take one?they say they are a dime a dozen.
And that in the eyes of the lord it is not a sin to be knowledgeable.

The Living Bible is easy to read. I also like the New King James Version. The New American Standard is good as well.
GO to a church. The pastor will gladly give you one.
I have 6 Bibles. You can have one of mine if you really want it. Email me if you are interested.

New International Version (NIV) is great and is much easier to understand than the King James Version. It puts it into more modern day language. As someone else stated, almost any church you go into would GIVE you one but you can buy one very cheap at Wal*Mart, a Christian Bookstore or on the internet.
**** By the way, they are NO 'sequels' or other added books to the Bible!

NIV or New International Version, seems to be most standard nowadays. It's easier to read than King James. NLT or New Living Testament is an enjoyable read, as is the Message, though both are almost considered paraphrases rather than translations.

It's a great thing to try to get a different perspective on life. I have been in church my whole life. I have read many bibles. It doesn't really matter what is standard or not! What matters is that you understand what is written in a language that makes sense.
I have found that the "Life Application Study Bible" is written in "our century" and helps to apply the teachings and principals to my life. After all, you don't really care about the "begots", it how you can make yourself a better person that matters.
