Ask your mom to give the dog a chance.
My grandson brought home an American Pit Bull Terrier. I took one look at the puppy, with the slanted eyes and big head, and said to myself "what am I in for?". I had bought all the hype. It turns out she is the most people friendly and lovable dog I have ever had.
My grandson did it again a few weeks ago, another Pit. I was worried about dog aggression from the older Pit. She would growl and snap at the puppy. Now two weeks later they run around the house playing.
Ask your mom if she remembers the Little Rascals? Petey was a Pit Bull. Does she know that the Pit was the most popular family dog from the turn of the century to the '50s. They were nick named the "Nanny Dog" because they are so great with kids. I had my Pit lay on the floor with my one month old grandson for an hour, she would not leave his side. He is a year old now and she puts her head in his hand so he can play with her ears while she licks his toes.
Show you mom my comments. I was very afraid of having a Pit and I know now how wrong I was. My Pit is four years old now and is the greatest dog I have ever had. Oh, by the way my grandson named her Honey and she really is.
Hey Mom, they are great dogs.

I understand, my baby is a Rott/Pit mix. I can be HARD to teach people that they are not all mean dogs, but go ahead give it a try. Just don't get emotional (I know it is hard not to) and cover her up with facts, Facts like Did you know that the CDC stopped recording dog attacks by breed? They did this because their OWN double blind studies showed that when in doubt people would say they were attacked by a pitbull, even if the dog WASN'T a bully breed! All the Pitbull hype made people ASSUME and attacking dog was a Pit, even if it wasn't!

Six months old is trainable, get the pup into an obedience class, make sure the puppy is socialized to his pack (your family) and be a responsible dog owner with him.

I've known some very sweet pit bulls. They DO need to be spayed/neutered, or you'll have an aggressive dog and that will only convince your parents that all pit bulls are bad.

Truly there is not much that you can do to change your Mom's mind. If she believes the stereotypes and all of the hype and cannot get past this, it is best not to have the dog. Having a large, powerful breed dog in a home where someone is not comfortable with it, can only lead to disaster.

Go to www.badrap.org and have your mom look at the site and it might change her mind. I have bred Pit Bulls for 16 years and I love them to death but you have to know how to handle them and they must be trained. They are not dogs for 1st time owners. With the right training for the owner the dog will have a chance..Good luck

or you can move out on your own if you are old enough and keep the dog. I say get rid of it because it's your mom house.
You can still trail a six month old pup. It's your mom house and rules.

Simple observation. If the puppy is acting like any other normal pit all she has to do is LOOK at it to see this for herself. However, some people have preconceived ideas so firmly ingrained in their heads they can't see what's right in front of their faces. Hopefully your mom is a little more open minded than that, but nothing you can do if she stands firm. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. GL :)

I know this one lady that has fostered 6, but ended up adopting them all. pit bulls do have a rep for being agressive. i wouldnt keep it if u have a baby in the house, but ive heard they can be great dogs. the only time i've heard about them going bad is when the owners abuse them, neglect them, or force them to fight other dogs. If it's never had that, then it may be okay. im sure if she wont let u keep it, someone will adopt it at a humane society.

Your mom is just trying to be safe and protective. You should respect that and when you have your own place get your own baby pittbull.
