I tried installing xubuntu on my old emachines T1840, but it was painfully slow. I was looking through videos on youtube and saw this video:http://youtube.com/watch?v=lfynuxypzoo.....
This guy has a worse processor, the same ram, and a better video card and xubuntu is running amazingly on it.

I used the newest version of xubuntu, so I'm wondering if the new on has higher system requirements than the older versions. Do you think I'd have better luck installing an older version of xubuntu?

It is my honest opinion that your RAM is probably suffering from some sort of corruption. Xubuntu should come with a "MemTest" to see if you are having problems.

In any case, while it might run slightly faster, it will probably not be any worthwhile amount. 6.06 doesn't have, from what I have heard, as good a hardware detection as 7.04, so you may not get your hardware working as easily.
