I have maple cabinets, stainless steel appliances, dark granite counters. I'm looking for a modern theme.

I would go with a shade of taupe/tan that is in the same family as the maple, but lighter. Contrasting colors...such as red...are not going to make your granite counters look very great. And I assume, with the granite and the steel, you are trying to go more modern. If you check out the latest decorating mags, you will see that more mono-chromatic color schemes are very 'in' for kitchens. If you want to add color, paint your dining room walls. But I would keep it more streamlined in the kitchen area's and really let those countertops shine through.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

white would be modern. Also it depends on what colors are in adjoining rooms and if any of them are visible from the kitchen. The colors need to flow from room to room.

I think you should paint them red. That is a really hot color for a kitchen, it would be totally cool. It is very modern, and would definitely go with your colors so far.Good Luck!!!
