A 336 in 30-30 is the best lever model that exists. If the shells you have are base stamped as 30-30 and are correct then quit worrying. A bullet has a tight fit in the barrel in order to impart spin and work properly so you are not going to able to stick it in the muzzle end of the barrel; if you can then your barrel is pretty well shot out.

If the bullet chambered for your rifle does not fit up the wrong end of the barrel (the exit end), don't worry about it. It shouldn't fit unless your barrel is shot out and already ruined.
The unfired bullet will be tight at the exit end because that is the way they are designed in order to be accurate. Are you saying that the 170 grain .30-30 bullets fit but the 160 grain .30-30 bullets do NOT fit??? Then you have the wrong caliber(s). Check the caliber designation for your rifle, then the label on the box of ammo.
Good luck.

my grandfather has the same gun, and he shoots the 170 grain bullets.
if it doesn't fit, then, there is either something wrong with the barrel in which case take it to a gunsmith to find out.
make sure that it is chambered in 30/30, as it could be chambered in 35 Remington like JD said.
the bullet should be snug, don't worry about it.

If you are talking about the new 30-30 caliber Hornady Plastic Tipped ammunition it was in fact DESIGNED to be fired from your lever action Marlin 336C. You just need to be sure your Marlin 336C is in fact a 30-30 caliber gun and not a Remington 35 caliber. If the gun says on it 30-30 caliber and the ammunition box says 30-30 caliber you have the correct ammunition for it.Simple...

if you mean that the projectile will not fit in the end of the barrel ,than it comes out of when fired, it shouldn't. the projectile has to be a tight fit . if you can put a projectile into the end of a barrel ,it is either the wrong ammo or the barrel is worn.
