My daughter just turned One on July 27th, and still doesn't walk. She stands alone but she hasn't even really started crusing (walking while holding on to stuff). Do you thinks somethings wrong??

My 2 year old, started crusing at 9 months and walking independently at 11 months. So I am worried. I also bought my one year old a walker, shes been in it all day and hasn't tried moving. ANy suggestions?

Walker use has been shown to delay walking so I wouldn't use that to try to "train" her to walk.

Besides she isn't anywhere near "late". Late walkers don't start until 16-18 months. And many kids go from cruising to walking in a week or two.

12 to 18 months
Most children take their first steps between 11 and 14 months, but the normal range for reaching this milestone is very broad. Some kids walk as early as 8 months, others as late as 17 months. Don't worry if your child is one of the later ones — what's important is the progression of skills. If your child was a little late learning to roll over and crawl, chances are he'll need a few extra weeks or months for walking as well. As long as he keeps learning new things, you don't have to be too concerned.

Baby walkers
Contraptions made of seats with wheels and a frame are not the best tools to help your child to walk earlier. Sure, they’re fun and it’s very cute to see your baby zooming around the floor on wheels, but walkers can actually hinder a child’s natural progression towards walking. Babies who use walkers tend to rely on them for balance and movement, and the results is that the muscles they need for walking are not as well developed. Walkers are also responsible for thousands of child injuries across the United States each year, so use with extreme caution.

Barefoot
Nature provided us with padded soles on our feet, and toes to help keep our balance. Putting shoes on a child learning to walk is anything but natural, so avoid if possible. Also let your child get used to different surfaces such as grass, carpet, wood and sand. It keeps things fun and interesting.

I wouldn't be worried. The average is from 9 months to 15 months and even up to 18 months so she is doing find just cruising. I would not recommend a walker actually. They often stand more on their toes in a walker, and will not put all the weight on their legs. It does not really aid them in learning to walk. She will get it eventually as long as she continues to practice. Try not to compare too much to your 2 year old -each child has their own pace and she sounds like she wants to practice more before she takes off! Then you are really in trouble!!

Your 2 year old walked early!!!! My son didn't start walking until he was 15 months, he started cruising at 14 months. You shouldn't be worried at all!!!!!
(I heard walkers aren't good for teaching toddlers to walk)
Enjoy the time you have with her not walking, you'll be wishing you had it back when she's running around the house getting into everything!!! Just like the saying "You can't wait until they can walk & talk & then all you want them to do is sit down & shut up" LOL

Trust me she can walk she just want to on her own time when she feels comfortable! try not paying her any attention and not expect it b/c i worried that my daughter was not going to walk when i wanted her too......so bad! at 11 months she did but i threw her walker away, and stopped trying and one day she was standing up against my legs and just took off to the other end of the couch and laughed each time. she did it over and over. so just be patient if shes is standing she can walk

Get her out of the walker. They slow learning to walk and are bad for the child's hips. She is within normal limits for learning to walk. She may be one of those kids who needs to figure things out before she tries them. She may surprise you and start to walk without ever cruising. Give her at least another month.

Nothing is wrong. My now 16 year old son didn't walk until he was almost 16 months. Now he runs cross country, track, and plays on the high school varsity soccer team. He also gets straight A's.

She obviously has nothing wrong physically or she wouldn't be able to stand. She just doesn't want to walk.
In the walker ALL day??? I don't believe in walkers, but all day is too much anyway.
Try very hard not to compare your children. That can be very hard on the one that is behind in one way or another.

Hon,

Everychild develops differently, if you are really worried, I would take her to the doctor, however, what you might consider doing is, make a game to her, ya know put her in the walker, and talk to her try to convince her to walk to you. Some children don't walk as early as others... So I would just play it by ear, and if you are alarmed I would go to the doctor... God Bless

Don't compare children.. you know better! She'll walk when she's good and ready. One of my friend's kids didn't walk until she was nearly 15 months, yet my son (not even 10 months) is already cruising... it varies from child to child and should not be of concern.
