I already have DSL and use filters on all of my phones. I am going to have DIRECTV installed on Saturday. Since all of their recievers require hook up to a telephone line to download information should I have a DSL filter ready to plug in for the reciever or does the reciever not require one?

The only thing that a non-TiVo receiver needs a phone line for is to order pay-per-view through your remote. If you don't have it plugged in, you can still order by phone or internet. They get their information (like the guide, etc.) from the satellite. I've had it for over five years and never had my other receivers plugged in. It's never affected anything. The guy that installed it originally told me that and I've moved like a gazillion times and they've never asked me plug them in.

I had an analogous undertaking and the telephone agency (Verizon) reported to no longer use a telephone splitter and to apply on condition that the telephone became tied right into a jack. An exception became, that if the telephone became a house instant variety, to apply the clear out purely on the main base unit and none on the DSL jack

it isn't needed for the reciever but if you plan on having the pay per view service you'll need the filter as it requires a phone line.

if you think you need one for a caller id box, or a modem... it may work.

but you don't really need to have clean audio on the directv, because it's not a phone.

They are cheap, they don't protect anything, they filter noise from the dsl signal.

Use it if you have it, but be prepared to remove it if the caller id does not work.
