no dear shermynewstart ! don't give a penny .
You in your conditions that i read before , deserve to recieve
and not to give.
Animals such as pigions, domestic dogs & etc. are angels &
they do not have the evil things & evil thoughts that human has.
I sujest you to give that 10% to your dog instead !

Yes,
If you're wondering you should ask God, what he thinks, he can tell you in your heart and mind through the power of the holy ghost. Only that answer will really mean anything to you.
But i also know he will bless you so much for paying tithing he said in 3 Nephi 24 :10
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house; and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
I know this is true and have seen incredible blessings in my life because i pay tithing, yes 10% . I promise YOU will be the one benefiting from it! : )

Actually I think it is 10% of what you get, what comes into your hands.
I do not think that God expects you to tithe on the money you never see, such as taxes.
But, when you get a tax refund, or draw any benefits from the government, then yes, you should tithe on it.
I do not mean to dissuade you from tithing 10% of your gross income, just stating how I understand it.
Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's.
This is quite debatable, since it was Levitical Law. Are Gentiles bound by Levitical Law?
Read Leviticus 27, Numbers 18 & Deuteronomy 12.
It states in Deuteronomy, that one was allowed to eat the tithe of their grain and other things.
Makes ya wonder.

Yes, I do, because you tip for others services, like food service, hotels and hair cuts, and think nothing of it at a rate of 10 to 15% and it keeps going up. Tithing has always been 10% and doesn't go up. It also helps churchs maintain recreation for youth groups so kids have good things to do instead of being out getting into trouble.

Since my taxes already go to social programs, no I don't think it's a good idea. Tell Uncle Sam to stop Welfare and like programs and then have the churches provide it, then I think 10% voluntary tithing is a good thing.

Yes, but to your neighbor that is in need but needs a helping hand! Or your relative that is trying but needs a helping hand. Or the homeless vet that sleeps on the street. But not to a greedy pastor that tells you that you'll go to hell if you don't pay your tithes!

the biblical law of tithing makes sense - the tithes were given to the tribe of levi, the priestly tribe, to support them because biblically they were not allowed to own land.
nowadays, without a levite tribe to sustain, it makes sense to donate 10% of your income to some charitable cause simply because sharing your wealth with the poor is the moral thing to do. if you want to donate some of it to your religious institution that makes sense too, since they do provide a service for you then its only natural that you should contribute something to keep them running.

When I see these people that are benefitting from people's tithing, it make's me want to puke. Have you ever heard of jim baker, how about Jimmy swaggard ? These are people that take, and take, they could care less about the people they minister to, all they care about is how much is being put in donations and how much they will have to spend.
You never hear about all the good these religions are doing , do you?

No. Remember the poor widow? Read Luke 21:1-4. Jesus was very happy with what she gave because it came from her heart. That is the way in which we should give....from the heart, keep in mind what is said at Matthew 6:25-33.
