BRAVO!!! Someone who gets it! I agree with you 100%!!!!!!!!
When it's your time to go, it's time to go....no luggage required. Whether it's on a battlefield, on a bus, or in the bedroom. You can't hide from the 'Grim Weeper'. Trying to hide in the closet will only leave police investigators puzzled.
I believe that we are all here to do a specific task. Once that task is accomplished, it time to go home. There is no hiding or running. Live life to the fullest and come to grips with dying. No one will remain here forever.

Well, I suppose, when you are dodging bullets your time may have been moved up a little.
But regardless, it should be a personal choice to join the military and people should respect a persons wishes. Can you imagine if someone spoke the same way to people who were considering if they were gay? That would be a crime probably to tell a person all the reasons not to be gay but it's somehow different when someone tells a person not to join the army. Weird how the world is working these days.
And another thing, the people saying the army is bad, etc. also think there will be a draft soon, so why would they want to discourage people from joining? Probably figure it won't be them that gets drafted.
There are some countries that have a required civil service term that makes people serve in the armed forces for a year or two but we do not. I'm really starting to think we should though, so people can learn what is like to feel proud of themselves and a part of something greater.

I joined the National Guard after 9/11 for the soul reason to serve my country. Depending on what your MOS is, and depending on where you are stationed, the possibility of being deployed can either be 0 or 100%.
I wasn't completely prepared when my unit mobilized and deployed to Iraq, but its just part of being in the military, you have to learn to adapt and overcome issues like that on a daily basis.
Just because you join the military doesn't mean you will die. You might die in the US on the way to work by being hit by some moron talking on a cell phone, or a drunk driver.

people dont realize that statistically people die in more drunk driving acidents than people have died in this war
no one likes war it is a terrible thing but someone has to do the job if you want to serve your country dont let someone elses opinion runin it for you they are NOT you and if you feel that is the best decision for you then go for it and be one of the proud to serve this country unlike so many others out there
no one on this plane has the right to think or speak for god it is one thing to teach the word of the bible and another thing to say well god doesnt like this or that even the heavins have had wars how do you think there got to be a heaven and a hell the devil and god had to fight

yes you are right it can happen anywhere, when its your time its your time but you can also make it happen faster by stepping out in front of a truck on that highway or by putting your self in some other dangerous situation, don't fool yourself into thinking that bullet or roadside bomb won't hurt you because you didn't think it was your time to go, I'm not saying Iraq is a death trap but use common sense

Again idiots with a keyboard dont reply. If its your time to go its your time to go. I for one dont believe in religion. Its just something people made up to manipulate others. Dont listen to these losers whining about the war behind the comfort of thier keyboards at home. Good for you for joining, we can always use more people that are dedicated in the military. Go Army.
