I have 30 more hours to get my degree in Accounting, but I really can't afford to go back to school. I am looking for a career instead of just a dead end job and I have been thinking of starting my own bookkeeping service. Just not sure which way to go, any personal experience in either field would be helpful. I appreciate any insight you could give! Thanks, Ronna

Accounting will pay more but it is more stress and more education. I was a CPA but rather do bookkeeping so I am a bookkeeper. You can open a bookkeeping service if you have the experience to do good work and if you become an Enrolled agent you can do tax returns and represent your client in front of the IRS.
Where I am there aren't certified bookkeepers anyone can say they are a bookkeeper and many clerks call themselves accountants so you need to be a CPA to show you are capable.
