Jesus changed water into wine. It even seems that Jesus drank wine on occasion (John 2:1-11; Matthew 26:29). In New Testament times, the water was not very clean. Without modern sanitation efforts, the water was often filled with bacteria, viruses, and all kinds of contaminants. The same is true in many third-world countries today. As a result, people often drank wine (or grape juice) because it was far less likely to be contaminated. In 1 Timothy 5:23, Paul was instructing Timothy to stop drinking the water (which was probably causing his stomach problems) and instead drink wine. In that day, wine was fermented (containing alcohol), but necessarily not to the degree it is today. It is incorrect to say that it was grape juice, but it is also incorrect to say that it was the same thing as the wine commonly used today. Again, Scripture does not necessarily forbid Christians from drinking beer, wine, or any other drink containing alcohol. Alcohol is not, in and of itself, tainted by sin. It is, rather, drunkenness and addiction to alcohol that a Christian must absolutely refrain from (Ephesians 5:18; 1 Corinthians 6:12).

Against alcohol? My denomination uses wine at nearly every service during Communion. At certain types of church fundraisers and other events, beer, wine or champagne may be served. Just because some of the Fundamentalists have a problem with alcohol doesn't mean that all Christians do.

Christians aren't against alcohol. I'm a christian and I enjoy a glass of wine but I wouldn't get drunk.
It's a bit like saying christians aren't to be wealthy because money is the root of all evil - the verse actually says 'the love of money is the root of all evil'...that's different all together but it's a common misperception.

perchance you do no longer truly comprehend as plenty approximately criminal arguments as you think of you do. in terms of ways the U. S. applicable courtroom has been explaining this is interpretation of the equivalent secure practices Clause of the 14th modification, there are a minimum of 2 diverse stages the courts use to scrutinize the excuses that government delivers in protection of its regulations that "discriminate." at first, regulations that "discriminate" against gay persons are actually not presumptively unacceptable. the burden isn't on the government to coach that the regulations are "narrowly adapted to serve a compelling purpose," this is the primary that the courts shop on with to racially discriminatory regulations. hence, somewhat, the criminal primary that could desire to be utilized is the "rational foundation attempt," wherein case the government purely has the burden for example that the type at concern is rationally on the subject count of a valid governmental purpose. If there is ANY rational justification for the regulation, no count how plenty you're making think of that this is tenuous, then the regulation might desire to be upheld. My argument for any state regulation that bans gay marriage is the factor you pointed out in #3: immediately couples can clearly reproduce and gay couples do no longer. Any rational and impartial person can see that heterosexual coupling can and regularly does bring about duplicate, yet gay coupling never does. You have been rapid to indicate out the exceptions to my customary fact with reference to the frequency with which heterosexuals reproduce. Exceptions to the generalization never do count while the *rational foundation attempt* is the criminal primary this is utilized via courts.

Christians are not against alcohol but they don't drink for fun a lot because drinking can be a bit dangerous sometimes but for the safety, Christians don't.
Not that they're the goody goody's.

well, i'm a christian and i'm not. some definitely are, but that doesn't come from the Bible. that would be their own idea. and i don't think that is christians in general. i am, however, against drunkeness, but that is a lot different than being 'against alcohol'.

Because the scriptures say that you can drink in moderation.
If the scriptures said "Thou shalt not drink" then there would be allot of drunk Christians around here.
I got it figured out......
Anything the Scriptures say do, the Christians don't but what Yahweh commands them not to do, that they do.
They are following Satan in her rebellion of Father Yahweh by disobedience.
