It wouldn't be so bad afterall, maybe a bit dirty for my tastes but would keep me active. After 4 years I can retire from it and find something else. I'd actually like to concidering I build and things, but the weather is never forgiving to me. I'm just curious if anyone really has a preference one way or another, or why I should or shouldn't. I know its not great money but chances are I'll never do anything else isntead. This ones a sure thing. Union and all.

You sound confused. You seem to talk yourself into being a carpenter as a profession and then talk yourself out of it again. I suggest you weigh the goods vs the bads in collumns next to each other on paper. Use a third column to write coments you think about while you are listing your pro's and con's. Also, while you are doing this, broaden your horizons. Like the commercial says, "Think outside the bun." I can't remember which fast food restaurant that goes to but my thoughts are these. Usually when we have a desire to accomplish something, it comes from withing. If there seems to be doors shutting in one direction, it could mean that God is direction you into another direction. That doesn't mean a different career because you already stated you like carpentry and that the job fits you. I think about my husband's job. He loves his work and has been doing this career since 1971 but there were times that the door definitely was closing in places. He never felt that he was suppose to change jobs, so he decided that God must be directing him to move to a different location. Everytime he has put his faith in God's direction, as soon as the door closed, another one opened just as quick. We have lived in several states because of that but in every one of them and with every move, things have happened that proved that we were suppose to be there at that season in our lives. While you are contemplating what to do, don't forget to find out what God wants you to do. One thing I have really learned in life. If you go with God and let him guide you, you will find your blessing waiting for you when you get there. Maybe in finding a job in a warmer state where the weather cooperates, it will open up some other doors you may not even be aware of. When I was in high school, I went to a private school for my 7th - 11th grades. We were not told by the teachers at any time during our 11th grade that we would not be graduating next year with that school because it was going to close. If they had told us, I would have just taking Government a year early and graduated in that school. That was the only subject I still needed to complete high school and you usually take it as a senior. I was extremely upset having to switch schools for just one year, going to a strange school and couldn't figure out why my private school just couldn't stay open for our grade so we could graduate from it. Well, God had other plans because I met my husband as a senior in Government class in the new school. If the school hadn't closed, we would never have crossed paths. We've been together since 1969. Keep an open mind about your career and remember that broadening your horizons helps you conquer bigger and better things.
