No need to fret so hard over this. Money is not always the issue. How well do you know her? Have you been friends for a long time? I have a true blue friend and we have known each other since childhood and been through each other's ups and downs together. A lot of times our gifts are made. A photo album with photos from our past, a collage, I scan the photos in and then arrange them in all kinds of ways and print it out on one sheet and frame it. That is a great gift. She has made me a necklace, we've done tatoo's and sometimes we just go out and have a birthday drink and talk. These things mean a lot more to someone than a store bought gift.

Being her FRIEND is the Most Important Thing to Her !!!!
And Remembering her Birthday is also Important to Her !!!
How about a Nice Book on Friends
Taking her out to lunch, or better yet cooking her FAVORITE dinner !
Have a Friends nite together....Pizza, Wine, watch movies, or play games, like you did in high school or college.
Throw a small gathering for a Surprise Birthday Party !
Buy a Beautiful Christmas tree ornament for this year, and she will think of you when she hangs it on the tree every year.
how about a rose bush or tree for her yard
Wind chimes, every time the wind blows, she'll think of her Best Friend !
Her Favorite Movie on DVD
Have a cookie bouquet sent to where she works , YUMMY !!!!
A Nice picture of the two of you in a Cute Frame !!!
Whatever you come up with She will Love !, because You are her Friend ! Money that you spend doesn't matter. FRIENDSHIP DOES !!!!!

Why not take you friend out to a nice steak house for dinner? Rich people gotta eat too! And remember it's not the cost of the gift that matters, what DOES matter is that you had the presence of mind to honor this persons birthday, and with that in mind, even if all you gave was a card, it still would be a great gift!

Money isn't really a consideration here. It's not like she's going to hate you if you don't buy her something from Burberry. Get something that is inexpensive but that you know she needs, like an iPod holder for when she works out or a neat-looking holder for her jewelry. The fact that you put thought into it and got something she needs is worth more than many other things. Good luck!

Unique art gift is the best present.
I recommend photoartomation.com ( http://www.photoartomation.com/ArtWork.htm ).
These guys convert digital photos into paintings of different art styles and print them on canvas. After you send them your photo they create a preview sample of your photo. It’s free. You can buy it if you like it.
I sent a digital photo of my wife (I wanted to give her a special present for Valentines Day) to photoartomation and they turned it into three gorgeous art samples that I could preview online. I had a hard time picking one because all three were really beautiful. Although their prices pretty high I was not disappointed because when I received my order the prepared artwork was much more impressive then online samples. And my wife was just speechless…

Gifting isn't supposed to be about the cost. If you know this friend very well, I'm sure you know her likes and dislikes. You should be able to get her something that has special meaning or something that only you could make or put together for her. Be creative.

If you're really close, maybe something meaningful, or a joke present, maybe one that reminds you of an inside joke that you share. Or if you're not that close, I'd say either get her something you think she would like that she wouldn't see in Nordstrom's, like something vintage or something made by a specialist in your area who's not well-known. Or you could get her food...food never goes out of style. Or anything really nice. I mean, no matter how rich you are, you can't really have everything. So buy her something nice, and forget about the whole wealth thing.

Wow, that's tough. If you are artistic, maybe some sort of craft that you make yourself. Or bake her a cake. Something that is homemade that she can't buy anywhere else. Well, she could buy, but homemade stuff is always better than store bought stuff.
Good Luck!

The more wealthy they are, the less you should spend on their birthdays; especially if you are not wealthy. I suggest you buy them a paperback book.

Some thing she like but hard to find. or she doesn't know about.
for example I just found out about this small tripod for small cameras.. it fits in your pocket. You can stand it on a rock. The legs move in all directs so you can even wrap it around a tree branch. so cool.
