Hi, I have a friend married with a military and they are being assigned to Japan. She's used to have a steady job but now that they're leaving she wonders if she can search for a job in that country or inside their base. Any one knows...

Inside the base? Yes. Outside the base? No. It is a violation of the Status of Forces Agreement between the United States and Japan.

off base, only if the corporation is willing to sponsor them. On base, jobs are VERY limited, because most are given to Host Nationals.

Most jobs available to spouses include MWR positions like at the FFSC and the base Gym, as well as the Commissary and Exchange.

It IS possible ot make very good money teaching conversational English privately however.

Most definately. Remember, someone comes and someone goes. Their welcome packet should have had some spouse employment material. If not, AAFEES is usually military spouses as are the hospital, Rec Center, gym, all the support operations. They should have a sponsor in Japan, they can ask them how it all works. When I was transferred to Germany, my wife worked in the military hospital in housekeeping. Later she got a job teaching basic English to German employees, no teaching certificate required. It can be done.

military post are like mini cities she can go to the human resorces office on post and apply for a job she may not quite get what she wants but she will be placed in a job im a military wife stationed in germany working at the PX(dept store) on post) she wont be able to get a job in the japanese economy unless she speake japaneese and has the apprprioate schooling

foreign countries economies are verry diffrent from america example here in germany just to be a simple grocery store cashier in the german economy requires schooling it is that way in many other countries as well shell be fine

if she wants to get a head start tell her to go to www.aafes.com and click on employment and start filling out her application she can review jobs availble where she is going and perhaps apply for them but she may want some time off to settle in to her new home as well
