Hello. I recently had an interview with a company I REALLY want to work for. The interview went great!! The problem came from my original application. My last employer went out of business and I was sketchy on current contact information for my last supervisor. The number on the application was no longer current. This new place I applied called today to ask if I had the correct information. After two number attempts, we got it right. Does this make me look ridiculous? Despite the great interview, could this cost me the job?

As long as you made it clear that your last job went out of business, it should be okay. So they understand you weren't just being lazy (or making it up.)

No if your story is true that happens to a lot of people. My old company was bought years ago and I left soon after. I've been at my current job for a very long time. I can't even remember the old address but I have some old documents.

I went as far a while ago to check in and see if the new company had any record of me. They didn't they said that I'd worked there so long ago that my records had been transfered to tape and put in a vault. But even then that they didn't even know how to retrieve them and the company they had outsourced the verification to told me forget it we don't have access and they are too old anyway....

Bottom line:

This happens to a lot of us. I hire a LOT of people myself and I don't give this stuff a second thought unless it looks like a pattern with a person on several references.

Things are beyond your control so don't fret over it. You are not the 1st person to not call your last employer to see if their phone works! Why would you? You quickly resolved the issue & showed your willingness to fix it. That speaks more to your character. Good luck!

No. The employer was checking out your app. To me that means they are interested.

No, if they are calling references it means you're in unless one of them tanks you. I had a guy do that once just because he was jelious I was getting a better job then he had. Sometimes people suck.
