I have Kholer, Elger and American standard. I do not recommend American Standard. My tank on the back of the toilet broke less than a year after my home was built due to a manufacturer's defect and a crack in the porceline. It flooded the entire first floor of my home because the toilet kept thinking it was being flushed and filling the broken tank with water. Not only did I have problems with that brand, but several other neighbors in my same subdivision did as well.

I replaced it with the Elger because of its one piece construction. The only problem I have with it is that ONLY Elger flappers (not the universal ones) can be used with it and only Lowes carries them. The universal flappers just don't seal the opening in the bottom of the tank well and it will keep running.

I have 2 Gerber Toilets, 1.6gpf, Model #: 112.19.2

I couldn't find many reviews for this toilet so I'll just give my opinion ... The toilet works ok. At times, I'll have to double flush (flush and before the water reaches the drain out, flush once more to make sure everything goes down) ... Other times, it works just fine. I believe my issue is the inner parts, the water refill mechanism. I've been too lazy to install a new one, I have it in the closet, lol.

I'd probably give it a 7.5 ... not good I guess but I'm not use to rating toilets. Most of my friends live in apartments who still use the older 5-7?gpf toilets.

all Manufacturers make toilets that are economy and (for lack of a better term) luxury. For toilets you need to look at the trap way. Your home stores will list these. The bigger the better. 2 1/8 inch is about the biggist I've seen. Don't buy anything under 1 1/2 inches.

I faced that decision last year and bought Eljer one piece because it looked the sleekest and had no room for dirt to collect.

Having looked at all the possible ones however I would say that if cost is no object getting a TOTO one is the way to get the finest there is. It looks good, flushes well, and even solves the problem of leaving toilet seats up (because with a little forward push as you depart the toilet seat will bring itself silently down to closed - now for eliminating arguments that is priceless).

Right now I'd say Kohler or American Standard are the top brands. Both have improved flushing systems with large traps to allow you to get better flushes without clogging the drains, even with the low water levels mandated by the government.
