More people arrive at Basic in less than ideal physical condition. While it would be ideal if everyone did, the Army understands that is unlikely to happen. Basic Training is designed to make civilians into soldiers, and most do make it through as long as they are motivated and really want to.

The United States Army Understands that we live in a digital age, lol. The most exercise/sports that SOME young men and woman get these days is with thier X-Box 360's and Playstation 3's. The Army starts you off slowly, the minimum
requirements are 3 push-ups, 17 Sit-ups and run/walk 1 mile in 10 minutes 30 seconds. By the time your finished with basic you'll be doing 20+ push-ups, 50 sit ups and runinng 2 miles in under 18 minutes

Hmm, if you are talking about yourself you better start working out! I swear, I had never done so many pushups in my life down there! I saw SO many girls in tears or almost in tears that first week because they couldn't do a single push up. Or they couldn't run a mile. Yeah, it sounds easy- but it's tireing.
But those people made it through. So yeah, it is possible. But those Drill SGT's will make is Hell for you- literally.

But remember- it is just a mind game, most of the time! And it can be quite fun at times too!

Good luck!

in reception you will do a pre-pt test. I guess you could call it. if you can run a mile in under 8minutes, do like 15 push-ups and like 20 situps you are ok. If not you get held over and sent to "FAT CAMP" where you work on that until they see that you are capable of passing the initial pt test so you can now go to your Basic training company down range. They are their to help you succeed, you get pushed to new limits. The drill sergeants arent there to set you up for failure, why does everyone think that? Im planning to go to Drill Sergeant school soon!

if you know you have to do some exercises that you are out of shape on it doesnt hurt to get in shape before you leave for basic to make it easier on you its just common sense to prepare your self

some people are lazy and need motivation and go into basic traing out of shape they get in shape and generally graduate out of basic but the drill instructor will be extremely hard on you

example the fat kids that we had in basic were known as road blocks the reason they had to run all the way from the back of the formation to the front of formation when we came to a street and check for traffic

my advice to you is get motivated it is not that hard to get in shape

people think its suposed to happen over night or something or they over work there selves and grow weary just start doing 3 push ups a day and working up to atleast 50 push ups and runing as far as you can each day to work up to atleast 2 miles things like that you dont have to over do it all just get in shape

Even people that think they're in shape find out they're probably not when they get there. Part of the training is to get you into the best physical shape of your life. So even if you think you're not in shape, as long as you pass the entrance physical, and have the heart for it and don't give up, you can do it. Hooah!

It depends on the person. If they're a bit out of shape but they could get back in shape with a bit of working out, they'll probably be accepted. If you're out of shape and have had a medical history, or have a dangerous weight problem, you definitely won't.

Well I dont have any experience to make me believe one way or another but from what I've heard about it. Even if youre not in shape when you get there you'll either washout or you'll get into shape when you leave.
