Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?
Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage.
Consumers don't want expensive produce.
Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs.
But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie. there is no such thing as "cheap labor."
Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or $6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return, he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free.
He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent.
He qualifies for food stamps.
He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.
His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.
He requires bilingual teachers and books.
He qualifies for relief from high energy bills.

If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI. Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare. All of this is at (our) taxpayer's expense.
He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.
He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in benefits.
Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour left after paying their bills and his.
The American taxpayers also pay for increased crime, graffiti and trash clean-up.
Cheap labor? YEAH RIGHT! Wake up people.

Sergio D.- Once again, your little links are cute! Illegal immigrants trying to pay taxes to save their butts from being deported. What a nice gesture. And they didn't pay taxes before because why? Because they chose not to pay taxes. Because it's nice to mooch off of real Americans.

Good God, man, why aren't you in public office? Please, please, please run for office. You see the complete picture and define it concisely and lucidly.

You described the media spin just as you listed it. In fact, this whole illegal immigration thing is really about politics. Our government wanted desperately to get Mexico to endorse the North American Free Trade Agreement known as NAFTA. This free trade was promised to improve the Mexican economy. It backfired and pushed millions of middle class Mexicans into severe poverty while making the richer in Mexico much much wealthier. Do the rich care about the poor? No, not in Mexico and not in the USA. This agreement also pushed many middle class Americans into poverty and will continue to do so as this agreement progresses. It has also made major corporations from beer companies to food importing companies some extreme amounts of money.
Now, why don't we send illegal immigrants back to Mexico. Why do our officials want amnesty? Why is Mexico sending all there poor people to America? Why are American officials pretending to care now that the public is aware instead of 8 years ago when this all started in motion?
You can find your answers by simply pulling up NAFTA from your search engine. It will give you all the pros and cons. All the cons are aimed at big money by the way so don't expect any positive effects on you unless your work or stocks are directly connected to trade.

EXACTLY!! While I am struggling to make ends meet with no insurance, high taxes, 7dollar per hour jobs (on the books) they get it all!! I needed food stamps at one time when I was 8 months pregnant and couldn't work and had no money, they told me "sorry we can't give you anything because you have a car that is worth more than $4000 dollars. We don't care if you have to live in that car and starve even though your pregnant." The next day I went to the supermarket to buy 1 thing only and I was crying because all of the illegals on line were using food stamps and getting more than enough food. and to think I paid my taxes for 25 years. FOR WHAT!!

Nobody with a Clue is for any sort of Illegal Immigration. We have enough low skilled workers that Are American to fill those jobs. Aside from that nobody has tapped into using incarcerated inmates that are low risk to pick lettuce to pay back their debts to society!

Dude, most of the people that answer these questions are really young liberal kids that have no concept of what occurs politically. They are told that these people are just poor and sad and just want a chance. Then what do they do? They spit up that same garbage to everybody else. The fact is their are many states that have almost no illegal immigration problems and they function just fine. I do feel bad for these illegals however because their country has failed them. But don't come to us illegally and try to change us. If they truly loved their country they would stay and try to change theirs from the inside. If you want to wait in line and pay your dues to become an American I'll welcome you with open arms.

Careful, you're gonna pop a vein! Seriously get a life and stop trying to tell others how to live!
Jill S- Cry me a river with your ridiculous story. If you really were a citizen then you would be able to get food stamps! Please how do you know these people were illegal, you know you can even take the citizenship test in other languages!

The bottome line is, the government enables these people to be here because they know we can't survive without them.
The government says "no illegals" then gladly hands them tax numbers, allows them to buy houses, cars, enroll their children in free schools and get free health care and cheap or free housing.
If the government TRULY didn't want them here, they'd do something about it.
