I have a swollen lymph node in my groin area.

It is soft and mobile, ultrasound confirmed it's size 0,4 cm.
Is this cancer?

difference between cancerous and non cancerous lymph node?

I know that in order to determine a cancerous lymph node a biopsy is needed.
I want to know about the difference, soft or hard of size and shapes.

The doctor is adamant it is nothing.
I don´t have any other symptoms, night sweats etc.

The difference between a cancerous lymph node and a non-cancerous one is:

One is cancerous and the other one is not!

Sorry couldn't help it...

Seriously though the only real way to find out if it is cancerous would be to have a biopsy done. There may be a tumour or a cyst or any other numerous reasons why it may be swollen. But to diagnose Cancer a biopsy is the only way to tell. Your doctor will run numerous other tests before a biopsy will be performed. Relax and let him do his job, there is no reason to panic yet. Good Luck!!!

The difference between cancerous and non cancerous swellings cannot be determined by size, palpability, mobility etc.

Only a biopsy can give a true diagnosis.

However, swollen lymph glands can occur for a variety of reasons other than cancer, infection being the most common cause.

You can't tell the difference, that's why the cells need to be examined under a microscope after a biopsy.

It needs to be biopsied. There is no other way to tell the difference. I hope it turns out OK.
Best wishes
